Aside from my son who only wins 1/3 of the games...feck it's been years to but it was and Imperative like 'March Forth' is...so whatever...I just got whooped by a random!

Nice idea, exercise that critical and strategic thinking.

For those that want to vent and vicariously avenge the communist takeover, there's Fallout 76 .

In a post apocalyptic world where ' Jericho ' is a reality along with underground dumbs seething with the remains of inhuman experiments and a surface devistated by radiation and nuclear fallout.

You'll find factions to align with and battle mutated creatures , build bases and craft , make weapons , run around in robotic exo- skeletons and overcome both the hostile enviroment and the dance on the ruins of the old system.

It's not cross platform but is available on both P.C and P.S.4 , the latter having in built console chat as well as standard game chat.

It's open world , meaning you can do your own thing or follow the story line , as well as engage in the many pre-set events.

Crud...shouldn't have listened to the lichess suggestion...can't figure out how to add people and such. LOL...I can play chess and figure out International financial markets but I can't add a friend on lichess...go figure. Fucking retard.

I carved a chess set out of wood and stained them all the same color and each piece is unique, having their own identities, so you can pick your players like a pickup game. It gives the game another dimension because you have to pay more attention to who is who as well. Plus you get to look and handle cool little sculptures as well. A woman came to me in a dream shortly after completing the set and told me they were the greatest chess pieces she ever seen. I told my wife about the dream and she looked up female chess champions and sure enough there she was, a Russian woman who had just passed away. It gave me chills.

Dedicated to the game, devotional to your wife, yet lead astray almost by a Russian woman. Seems about correct for a chess thread.

I've been rated over 2100 USCF and there's another GLP regular over 2200.
But I don't really like playing 2D chess online.

I recall the 2200 rated one....or claimed as such. Bald headed dude? I forget his name. ANd yet, you commented? For what reason? I'm going to bump it daily already?

New to the game.

Been playing a little over a year now.

I'm a lot better than when I started, but certainly not good.

Been playing the 10 minute games and am typically rated in the low to mid 900s. Sometimes lower, and rarely higher.

I'm an NM. 2280-something OTB now. Hit 2335 about 5-6 years ago as a peak. Had been playing a lot on chess.com since the club was shutdown. Took awhile but broke 2400 blitz on there. One of the few good things that's happened since covid hit, lol. Taking a break for a couple of weeks now. I love chess but every once in awhile you need a break and to come back fresh.

Are those types of ratings accessible to most through years of practice, or are some folks just naturals in a way?

I can't remember what site my dad plays on but he's real good. Scary good. Has been playing for a good 40 years. And online every day for last 10. I believe he does blitz mainly. I'll ask him his rank score tomorrow morning when he stops by.

At say 2300 range? I think it's doable for reasonably bright people who think a certain way and want to put in the effort. Getting through the 2100's is where a lot of people fail and that's why NM is 2200 I suppose.

Starting at a young age is of course preferable. But there have been even a few GMs who have started at late age. So yes I do believe 2300 is still doable for you.

But a top GM or just a "regular" GM? Highly unlikely if not impossible. I will never reach that level either and I started when I was 5, lol. Basically for a GM you need to start at a young age, be gifted in superior intelligence/knack for the game and put in the hard work. Just the way it is. That's the rule but of course there are a few exceptions.

Ironically, I picked up the chess bug about a month ago.... Been playing on chess.com, bought my first "Real set" just this week.

I've played a few times in my life but never really got into it too much. Now that I'm actually trying to learn principles I find myself making mistake after mistake.

That guy above me with the rating in the 2K+ range.... YEAH, Ima pass...

Been playing daily, win some lose some but, my ratings are consistent below 400.... LOL

I might as well be a monkey with a hand grenade.

I'm learning a bit of the rules, the various tactics of holding the center and developing my pieces.


I look forward to maybe playing you in 6 months or so..
