MIL air transponders off northern US?
This is not normal. No planes in a carved out area of almost the entire northern US, then heavy plane activity below.

Joint Stars was patrolling east coast off Florida for hours before transponders went off.

Over 15 states with absolute zero mil flight activity, something's up, no way.

It did that last night too. Weird. I had not seen it do that before. It said 6000 +military planes with 2 showing. Also, 6000 is a good bit for a Sunday night.

I'm in Florida, I'm not aware of how many states are involved in that storm, but this is all the way to Montana, can't imagine they wouldn't have any patrols out.

There was a thread, I think it was this morning, that all CONUS transponders were out, but I've never seen more than a a little over a couple hundred at any given time over CONUS.

You are right. I turned of the ABS earlier tonight and it was active all over CONUS. The carve out is odd.

I watch the military flights quite often, Montana, Iowa, Wyoming, etc, normally don't have that many mil flights. It's usually east coast, west coast and up to about Kansas. Above that, there's some that cross these states, but not many. I'm guessing there's not as many Military bases there. A lot of what we see are practice flights.

But, who the heck knows what is going on! That's why I watch the flights...lol. I'm trying to figure it out too.

Yeah, you might be right that the storm is affecting the map coverage right now, but been seeing all kinds of weird stuff since the inauguration, so watching it like a hawk, and of course, speculating it all.

Like why were there two British Airbuses that crossed the entire CONUS to stop at SW border and then return???

I have my guesses on what that could be. Then next day or early morning they just shut off transponders, pretty weird.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but maybe it is the storm moving more inland, who knows.
