I didn't know much about the monument except the ties to Mason design and layout but today I read the monument is seriously religious.
The aluminium peak has 4 sides, three are inscribed, West, North and South but the side facing easy is inscribed in Latin, 2 words "Laus Deo", (Praise be to God).
Plus all of the landings when you walk up have religious statements from different US states.

I'm Agnostic but it does seem like an attack on religion.
