User ID: 66650449 United States 01/03/2021 04:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Quadrantids are usually active between the end of December and the second week of January, and peak around January 3-4. Unlike other meteor showers that tend to stay at their peak for about two days, the peak period of the Quadrantids only lasts a few hours. |

I look at it, I want to know how it works, but I can't figure it out. If you have the time, Thoth's, could you give me a little learning lesson about this? Heh, to me they look like scientists abstract art.... But I want to learn how it's monitoring and what all the moving lines mean....ya know, the whole story....in short. My son was outside looking for his cat and he came in and asked what kind of gun would sound like a heartbeat. We all went outside, and whatever it was sounded kind of far off, but the "explosions" were literally like a heartbeat rhythm. Never heard that before. There were also three closer things that sounded like transformers blowing, but none of the lights or neighbors lights went out. My son saw a flash in the sky (like a shooting star or something), but I didn't realize there was a meteor shower.... The best stories are told by the survivors. |

(OP) User ID: 79772284 United States 01/03/2021 10:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the waterfall display shows ionization. It is not normally this loud. Whatever is in the atmosphere burning up is constant and large. If you look at prior years. You will see that this year is very special. I have heard many Radio operators comment on this as it affects transmission. Many observatories are not reporting these changes. “Man's status in the natural world is determined, therefore, by the quality of his thinking.” “To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering around in a great library without touching the books.” Manly P. Heh, to me they look like scientists abstract art.... But I want to learn how it's monitoring and what all the moving lines mean....ya know, the whole story....in short. Good to see you, lovey and my heart to yours.... Thank you CG. When a meteor enters the Earth's upper atmosphere it excites the air molecules, producing a streak of light and leaving a trail of ionization (an elongated paraboloid) behind it tens of kilometers long. This ionized trail may persist for less than 1 second up to several minutes, occasionally. Occurring at heights of about 85 to 105 km (50-65 miles), this trail is capable of reflecting radio waves from transmitters located on the ground, similar to light reflecting from a mirrored surface. Meteor radio wave reflections are also called meteor echoes, or pings. In order to listen to meteor echoes, you need a powerful transmitter in VHF band (ideally a tower broadcasting analog TV on a channels 2-5) located not too close but not too far either from you, a TV antenna, a VHF receiver... and patience. until this year. normally its not this strong. “Man's status in the natural world is determined, therefore, by the quality of his thinking.” “To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering around in a great library without touching the books.” Manly P. (OP) User ID: 79772284 United States 01/03/2021 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quadrantids Parent Body: 2003 EH1 Radiant Constellation: Boötes Radiant RA: 15h 28m Radiant Dec: +50° Start Date: 12/28 Peak Date: 01/03 End Date: 01/12 Meteor Velocity: 41 km/s Hourly Rate: 120 The Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the strongest meteor showers of the year. The radiant point of this shower is an area inside the constellation Boötes, not far from the Big Dipper. The best observations are possible from countries with high northern latitudes, such as Canada, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The metoer shower is virtually unavailable for observers in the Southern Hemisphere. The Quadrantids generally begin on December 28 and end on January 7, with maximum generally occurring during the morning hours of January 3/4. The Quadrantids are barely detectable on the beginning and ending dates, but observers in the Northern Hemisphere can see from 10 to around 60 meteors per hour at maximum. The maximum only lasts for a few hours. This year it is over 150 an hour at peak... over 100 an hour constant. “Man's status in the natural world is determined, therefore, by the quality of his thinking.” “To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering around in a great library without touching the books.” Manly P. Ahhh, thank you! Now I know!.... learning IS fun. That's just me reflecting on something I posted yesterday. So the red lines jumping up and down like that are notations of this ionized trail, or is the the top one, the pale blue-lilac lines?...boy howdy, I hope I asked that right.... Hmmm, perhaps I should ask what those different graphs are "saying" about the meteors...looking at it now while typing, the top one is monitoring for the "sounds" and the bottom one is showing when and how long they are in the atmosphere....I suppose, reflecting the radio waves...how long they're at "play"? Correct me if I'm wrong, okay?.... You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
