Whats the best Christmas you ever had and gift you got?

My Grandmother gave me the flag that was draped on my Grandfather's casket two Christmases after his death.

Was particularly special since I led his Honor Guard and handed her the flag.

Was so caught off guard I bawled like a little child.

Wife got me an Ancestry.com kit last year in late October so it could be processed in time for Christmas.

Long story short, after 40 years of searching and wondering I found my birth family.

My wife and I have been hanging out with my cousin and her husband regularly since then.

Best gift of any kind I ever received.

In my experience the "best" gifts often don't cost a great deal.

About 10 years ago, my wife hand-stitched a heavy afghan for months, and gifted it to me for Christmas. It truly was a labor of love. She invested many months into making it for me. It was her idea.

It will forever be my favorite gift because I consider every single stitch to represent her love for me. It’s 6 feet long, 5 feet wide, and probably weighs 25 pounds. It’s thick, heavy, warm, and incredibly comfortable. Every winter I unpack it, and when I pull it over me, I tell her it feels like her love being pulled over me.

There is nothing like the love of a good woman.

my folks had 4 kids, always put on extravagant Christmases for us, and were careful to be fair with the amount of gifts for each of us

the Christmas I was 16, got up early as usual to survey the loot with my siblings, before our parents woke up and we could start opening gifts

I noticed in the huge pile, there was only one gift for me

when the time came to open it, I discovered it was a suitcase

inside was an airline ticker for me to fly, for the first time ever, by myself, later that day, to visit family in another country

it was a fabulous trip, the stewardesses bumped me up to first class and gave me champagne, I learned to ski, had an innocent romance

it inspired me to a lifetime of foreign travel - thanks Mom & Dad!

You know what I got for Christmas last year? It was a banner fuckin’ year at the old Bender family. I got a carton of cigarettes. The old man grabbed me and said "Hey. Smoke up Johnny."

I got a talkboy and an Aerosmith CD. Recorded dream on. Then said "Hi kids were home early" and played it in slow motion.

Funny you say that.... that very scene was playing in my head at 4am this morning and I have no idea why.

I don't like the gift part of Christmas. I give gifts to people when I want to give them something... Not by season and social reasons. I gave up Christmas and the uncomfortable social issues with it.

And I give thanks to Christ Jesus OFTEN.. I do not need Christmas. I dislike much of the social occasion.. bit one being Satan Claws and the teaching of impossible lies to Children.

Well, you have a point. Our Lord did receive gifts of gold frankincense and myrrh. It is backwards of course because the gifts should be for our Lord and not eachother. We would not like it if others were given gifts instead of us for our birthday. In our family we only buy for the children.
