Quoting: Louis in Richmond An OS update should make things easier, not impossible to do or find. You'll figure it out. Look at it this Way, it's not a Mac. The one I told you my daughter gave us... I bricked it. It is now a huge paperweight. Customer service said they've seen it before but don't know how to fix it! I spent a few hours of my life on that piece of crap and gave up. On a good note, we got that Mac because we thought Woody's PC was going. Even after a clean wipe, it was slower than 56k, if anyone remembers that. We changed internet companies and now it works just fine. Apparently, it was too far from the bedroom where the modem was. We were used to watching the little circles in the middle of movies. It was a family owned company, but as soon as it was sold.l, it went crappy pretty fast. Now T-Mobile offers home Internet, at least here. It's $50 mo for 5G. My other bill was about $100. We still have to return the old modem. I doubt they're going to refund even though I just paid it Last Edited by Paranoiaaaaa on 03/20/2024 11:34 AM "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you." - Fox Mulder - The X-Files "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." - John Lennon |

My county in Virginia has no wired Internet and since I'm surrounded by tens of thousands of acers of cornfields there is very limited cellular coverage; corn doesn't need to make phone calls. I have installed two 6dB gain antennas outside on my home, connected to a cellular modem inside which is connected to a WiFi router in the house that our cell phones are routed through. I have installed anti virus / anti malware software on the WiFi router to protect our connected devices. And all that $1,000 USD of hardware provides me with is 5.7 Mb download and 2.6 Mb upload speeds. No pics, Win 11 doesn't allow you to copy and paste images or screen shots. I have a Starlink satellite system, but it has sat in its boxes uninstalled since it was delivered in September one week before I broke my arm which hasn't healed in seven months, so it sits in its boxes waiting me to install it. Some years life just sucks. I have free use of Starlink here where I am from family that has it, but I personally pay for and use Centurylink. When I have a large gig download, I switch over and once it's finished I switch back. Centurylink runs over the telephone lines to get to my residence here. I live about an hours drive out of town, in the mountains. Before that was available we had Wild Blue, which I purchased the equipment for. Starlink is far superior to that. But at the time, it was that, or dial up. Where I am currently, a 6gig download, takes about 2.5 hours for Centurylink to complete. With Starlink the same download takes 10 minutes. Even if you need to call someone to help set it up, you should get your Starlink going. If I was in your area, I would stop by and help you set it up for free, but I am not. Perhaps a neighbor kid needs some money? $50.00 to a high school kid for an hour or two of labor is all you really need. You won't regret getting it up and running. If you have open sky all around, then you won't need to do much. It probably will only take about 10 minutes at best. Here we had to install it on a long pole with guy wires, as we are in a ravine. If you get packages delivered perhaps ask the delivery driver if they can stop by after work and offer them some money for their time? Where there is a will, there is a way. Good luck!
