This entire mask BS reminds me of the non-smoking laws and a friend who owns a very popular sports bar in a college town. He had also owned a couple highly successful restaurants and was also a city commissioner; so, he was experienced.

I had been a regular during college days and knew the bar and owner well. I visited again after the smoking laws were enacted and noticed there were people smoking. I asked him how he "got away with it".

He stated very simply that he, as a business owner, was not the police and had no legal obligation to enforce the law in his private establishment. If the police wanted to enter to do so, they could, but the burden was not his despite the threat of fines.

He eventually took the city to court and won his case.

There is a notification at all entrances that he doesn't do the city's work for them and that those who enter might be subjected to tobacco smoke.

At that point, a customer can make their own decision to enter or take their business down the street because he has, as a private business, no obligation to serve everyone.

This is in Texas, so there's that, too.

Mandatory masks dictates by businesses because they are afraid of fines is simply that: fear.
