Google for Startups Accelerator for Black Founders
Google is expanding ways to support Black entrepreneurs through Google for Startups.

The accelerator is designed specifically for businesses using technology to address today’s biggest challenges

“The class includes entrepreneurs like Guy Asaad, founder of Clerkie, a business designed to help Americans get out of debt. It also includes Melvin Hine, founder of Upswing, which is dedicated to improving the online education system, and Ashley Edwards, founder of MindRight Health which provides digital mental health services for young people.”

These 12 founders will receive training and support from Google and industry experts starting next month.

Training will be related to technical challenges, business growth, and outside investment opportunities to help these entrepreneurs reach the next level.

Google says today’s updates are a part of a company-wide effort to support Black-owned businesses through products and meaningful partnerships.

Racism of lowered expectations.

Google does not believe blacks can achieve anything on there own so they, in their grand benevolence, help move them ahead of the line.

I wonder if they pat them kindly on the head and give them treats when they do well.

All blacks should be irate and insulted. Most black people I work with just want to be given a fair shot, not be patronized and treated as slow children, and then left alone like the rest of us.

I just don't understand. If I saw any business labeled with the color of the owners skin, I wouldn't patronize that establishment.

Doesn't matter if they're white, black, asian, etc.

If your business hangs on the fact that the owner is of a certain ethnicity, I'm sorry but... Your business is doomed to fail.

BTW: Same thing goes for the sex of the owner. If the business is labeled as a Male / Female owned establishment, I'm not patronizing there.

"In connection to all of this, Jewel Burks, Head of Google for Startups US has stated in a blog post that “Starting today, merchants in the US with a verified Business Profile on Google can add a Black-owned business attribute to their profile, making it easier for customers to find and support them. As part of our $300 million commitment to support underrepresented entrepreneurs, we’re also integrating the attribute into the digital skills training programs we offer Black business owners through Grow with Google Digital Coaches.”

What's your problem with fighting systemic racism by emphasizing black businesses?

Should be easy to make a plugin now that detects that and blocks those results. Winning!

I wouldn't boycott black owned businesses, but would definitely boycott those who take advantage of the "black owned business" garbage. Almost certainly those businesses buy into the narrative and hate whites

Going so far as publicizing the race of business owners and encouraging or discouraging patronage based on if they are in a preferred category based on that race?

And to do this, they catalog people by color and use it as one of the most significant variables for ordering search results?
