Varsity cancelled the competition! Thank goodness. Never give up when you believe what you are doing is the right thing.

Looks like you were right. I would take your girls out of that organization asap.

Don't go. Problem solved.

What's the penalty, daughter can't "cheer" anymore?

I have to pay a $1500 exiting fee. Ok. I'll pay that real quick like. They are harassing me. Making fun of me. I cant believe these people are so stupid.
 Quoting: serena28

Big deal. Don't pay it. Like I asked, what's the penalty? Will they send the Cheerleader Police?

Tell them to kiss your ass.

I signed a contract, so they will sue me for the money. They are sue-ers.

Actually,

Contracts right now during a declared pandemic can fall under the US version of: Force Majeure (Act of God)

In many cases, especially with a clearly declared pandemic health threat, lawyers and judges will side with a party during events such as these.

I would even go so far as to say, their unwillingness to stop the event, may actually hold them personally liable if any of the people associated with the event get sick and god forbid die. They can be held directly responsible for this as they insist on keeping the event going and threatening financial harm for non-compliance.

I would not go. I would let them open a lawsuit, and I would fire a counter-lawsuit right back at them once their's fails for pure negligence. I would also let them know that local news organizations would probably not side with them and that all local and national news outlets will be made aware of their threatening gestures. There are ways to deal with these types.

Amazing thread, serena28. I've been following it, and thank you SO MUCH for being the person you appear to be: Intelligent, conscientious, loving, and, dare I say, a lovely human being.

Thanks for taking the chance to post on GLP. I, for one, sincerely appreciate the time you have taken to add to our collective understanding, during this historic and scary time.

SO MUCH RESPECT

Humanity is facing extinction from a deadly virus and your worried about a cheer competition for your daughter...great mother you are...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76203570

Yes, I am a great mom! Thank you! I am protecting my child, family and community from the virus to the best of my abilities. However, unless everyone stops being selfish and stops going everywhere this will continue to spread. I have been pressuring my boss from almost the very beginning to start letting people work from home, distancing ourselves. At first he and the others ignored me, but I didn't quit. I kept ON AND ON until they finally started taking action. Had I had my preference I would have been working from home weeks ago, but I can only do what I can do. However, although I am not at the top of my organization, I did not let that quiet my voice. I also sent an email to the Alabama Coronavirus Taskforce, and I plan to send to all my state representatives tomorrow. I will not sit idly by while people put our communities in danger, no matter how stupid they may think I am. I KNOW what I believe this is, and it is NOT natural and NOT the flu. Even the flu killed millions in the past, and this is MUCH, MUCH worse. We must stand up, not only behind our keyboards, but in our communities. We can make a difference.

I’m in Alabama as well. It’s amazing to me the number of people who are NOT taking this seriously. Glad the competition was cancelled. As a former college cheerleader, I know that is a lot of close contact and no opportunity for social distancing.

Re: Fighting to get out of state cheer competition canceled
My employer has already advised us to no longer travel out of state, but my daughters cheer gym insists on going to Sevierville, Tennessee to a competition this weekend. I have refused to go, and they are having a fit. I don't think it is worth the risk. Would you go? Although I know many don't want a lock down, if we dont act it will spread to everyone. We must be proactive.
