Between 12,000 and 61,000 people in the US died from the flu during 2017-2018. An estimated 34,000 people died in 2018-2019. [ link to www.cdc.gov (secure)] The population of the US is 300 million. The population of China is over 1.4 billion. Please provide a good reason why we should panic over 3000 people dying from the coronavirus in China and not get upset about 61,000 Americans dying from the flu in one year? I know why. Because your tv told you to panic. Because GLP told you to panic. Because your social media told you to panic. Btw, the flu season is upon us and already 125 children in the US have died from influenza in the past two months. How come there's no panic over that? [ link to www.cdc.gov (secure)] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77422316 Apples and oranges, idiot. COVID isn't anywhere near as spread as the flu is. Compare the death rate, not the number of deaths. 6% death rate is big. 0.1% (the flu) is low. Think with your head. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77052145 My god testing for corona isn’t as wide spread so the number is inflated. Until world wide testing is available any rate is meaningless. The only cases that get tested are the few that are sever and wind up in the hospital. Of course if I only count the people in ICU America’s total death rate would be 25% everyday
