'Home Health Care' agencies getting too big for their britches--need a smack down!
Thinking I was supposed to select and arrange for this myself after discussing with my doctor I did so and unbeknownst to me, so did my doctor. So I had 2 different agencies when ONE would have been more of a pain in the ass than anyone should have to put up with.

If you or anyone close to you are dealing with these people, watch it. Some are ok but some should be avoided and shut down or otherwise squelched.

Recent comment from one of the idiots "Your doctor has committed you to our care!" Bad choice of words, Sparky.

I’m not sure I follow what your saying but I hope you can get some decent care. Was it just the comment that is disturbing or overall actions?

Overall attitude/actions which was summed up by that comment.

First visited by a very pleasant home health care nurse who seemingly agreed with everything I said then proceeded to come up with an unacceptable plan which included 4 or 5 different people treking in and out of my home each week, supposedly 'by previously arranged appointments only.' They have a habit of calling and saying "I am in your area today and would like (or 'need to') come over now rather than tomorrow or whenever we had arranged" Got pissed when I said NO.

I really hope I never have to rely on such arrogance when the time comes. So basically, the customer is disregarded for the convenience of the “care” giver.

That’s a buch of crap. If I experienced what you did I would look for a different provider.

Sorry--double post.

I had specifically requested 'light housekeeping help' which they failed to inform me that their agency did not provide like some agencies do. I don't need anyone to clean kitchen or bathroom, just get rid of cobwebs I can;t reach without climbing up a ladder and the incessant dusting for the most part. This was deceptive and time wasting.

By then the other agency had been trying to contact me but I fell asleep early that night and when I didn't answer, they called my family AND LIED SAYING IT WAS AN EMERGENCY. They called my daughter in law at work and caused her to lose a big sale. She sells high end stuff on commission and sales mgr gave the client to someone else to write up, thinking she would be otherwise preoccupied. Lying bastards! Their inability to make an appointment with me under those circumstances DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY!

As for 'taking care of myself' I have done so for many years but have had several strokes which have caused a few problems.

Stand your ground and lay out your plan. It helps if you have family help you as well if you can. I did this with my mom and told them how things will go. No calling at the last minute no I am in your area etc etc. If the behavior continues go to the supervisor if that is not sufficient go to the owner. Lots of these places are independently owned offices. Its best if you tell them right from the beginning. If you get no results call the national office if things get bad you are in control of them not the other way around.

I work in Medicare Compliance.

Odds are they are sending low wage criminals to your home.

I have received thousands of reports about similar issues over the years.

Watch your EOB's, you may find they are billing for services not rendered.

My advice is to causally mention that your Son or Daughter in law is a Medicare or Healthcare Compliance Investigator.

Usually will result in way better service.

Sorry to hear you are having such trouble! It might be better (and cheaper than dealing with criminals and some of the lowlifes who work at home health care agencies*) to just hire someone to come in and clean every couple of weeks. Medicare wouldn't cover it, I'm sure, but it might be something to consider investigating.

*Many fine people work in home health care - most of them are good people - but almost every agency occasionally hires a loser and can't get rid of them until they're caught misbehaving.
More deplorable all the time.

Your doctor is NOT trying to help you.

Those home health care agencies are spies. Period.

Get rid of them. Get a new doctor. Have the new doctor get your records and inform your old doctor that he is no longer your doctor.

Ralph, I'm sorry you need a certain amount of assistance, but it happens to many of us. I'm in a different state, and have found care to be excellent if you find the right agency. Just keep firing agencies til you hit a good one. Refuse any intervention you don't want - nursing services or whatever. You are in control. Just keep firing until one actually does what is needed.

You should have a case manager - someone employed by the state to see to your needs, but only with your input and your intentions. If you have a poor case manager, demand a different one.

This is all meant to assist you to stay in your own home, not enter a facility such as a nursing home, which is far more expensive. If you feel uncomfortable in receiving these helps, you will not do well at home and thus perhaps end up i a facility. Your case manager's job is to see to your comfort and care, your peace and quiet.

The idea that people want to drop in to do this or that - oh, heck, no! Not acceptable on any level. You are to set the schedule - what is convenient for you. Period.

Good luck in sorting this out!

Do a lot of research for your condition. YOU have to be your own nurse, doctor and caregiver. Do not trust what everyone suggests, including physicians and RN's, LPN's and health care aides...not sure what they call themselves. They call themselves "nurses." They probably had six weeks of training.

I'm an RN, and I've seen many mistakes made and heard of many mistakes made...even in hospitals. I never take flu shots, and I bitch if a doctor wants xrays unless absolutely necessary. Last time I needed one, I told the physician to have the technician limit my exposure to radiation. lol Sure enough, he did! Wrote it on the request.

They always want to take at least six+ xrays to cover their ass. They took two for me. That's all that was needed. And if any physician tells you that vitamins aren't needed, tell them to go to hell.

Financial situations require this for many. Hope that circumstance never comes to you and you would be unwilling to accept necessary assistance.

Ralph had trouble because the doctor overstepped, or at the very least did not communicate well. That's the first instance I've heard of a doctor setting up a care-giver agency, and I don't like it.

Ralph, talk to your case manager TODAY. Tell her/him what is going on, and what YOU WANT. They can get it settled in a hurry - people are very, very respectful of case managers, who can turn them to stone with a phone call.

Your case manager should have visited you already - who came to see you that set the number of hours you are qualified to have a caregiver? Social worker or case manager?

In my state housekeeping is no longer provided UNLESS there are three personal cares needed. These can be simple or complicated. They are easy to qualify for.

Just get with your case manager - all this upset is totally needless - one phone call and it's done. Keep the agency you want, get rid of the one you don't want. Or if you don't like either one, tell the case manager that, and you can start fresh with a better understanding of what is needed.

Get a new doctor immediately.

Send no-contact/no-tesspass orders to doc and BOTH home healthcare places.

You can go find any random person and SSA has to pay them. Its your house. Don't use an agency they are so bad.
