Other major biblical figures, such as Elijah and Moses, were said to have done a 40 day too. Retreat.. that's what we call it these days. Lots of retreat centers out there, some of which support longer term retreats. Other faiths have this requirement as well, thus you all most likely heard about yogis in caves on mountains and such.. all doing the same thing, through different techniques. Note that "fasting" for 40 days in those days, apparently, doesn't actually mean not eating for 40 days: Fasting traditionally presaged a great spiritual struggle.[24] Elijah and Moses in the Old Testament fasted 40 days and nights, and thus Jesus doing the same invites comparison to these events. In Judaism, "the practice of fasting connected the body and its physical needs with less tangible values, such as self-denial, and repentance."[25] At the time, 40 was less a specific number and more a general expression for any large figure. Fasting may not mean a complete abstinence from food; consequently, Jesus may have been surviving on the sparse food that could be obtained in the desert. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |

Anyway, not sure why your thread triggered this but it's always a good read. The Books of Adam and Eve From The Apocrypha and Pseudeipgrapha of the Old Testament by R. H. Charles, vol. II , Oxford Press When they were driven out from paradise, they made themselves a booth, and spent seven days mourning and lamenting in great grief. But after seven days, they began to be hungry and started to look for victual to eat, and they found it not. Then Eve said to Adam: 'My lord, I am hungry. Go, look for (something) for us to eat. Perchance the Lord God will look back and pity us and recall us to the place, in which we were before.' And Adam arose and walked seven days over all that land, and found no victual such as they used to have in paradise. And Eve said to Adam: "Wilt thou slay me? that I may die, and perchance God the Lord will bring thee into paradise, for on my account hast thou been driven thence Adam answered: 'Forbear, Eve, from such words, that peradventure God bring not some other curse upon us. How is it possible that I should stretch forth my hand against my own flesh? Nay, let us arise and look for something for us to live on, that we fail not.' And they walked about and searched for nine days, and they found none such as they were used to have in paradise, but found only animals food. And Adam said to Eve: 'This hath the Lord provided for animals and brutes to eat; but we used to have angels' food. But it is just and right that we lament before the sight of God who made us. Let us repent with a great penitence: perchance the Lord will be gracious to us and will pity us and will give us a share of something for our living.' And Eve said to Adam: 'What is penitence? Tell me, what sort of penitence am I to do? Let us not put too great a labour on ourselves, 'which we cannot endure, so that the Lord will not hearken to our prayers: and will turn away, His countenance from us, because we have not, fulfilled what we promised. My lord, how much penitence hast thou thought (to do) for I have brought trouble and anguish upon thee?' And Adam said to Eve: 'Thou canst not do so much as I, but do only so much as thou hast strength for. For I will spend forty days fasting, but do thou arise and go to the river Tigris and lift up a stone and stand on it in the water up to thy neck in the deep of the river. And let no speech proceed out of thy mouth, since we are unworthy to address the Lord, for our lips are unclean from the unlawful and forbidden tree. And do thou stand in the water of the river thirty-seven days. But I will spend forty days in the water of Jordan, perchance the Lord God will take pity upon us.' “If you'll let me tell you what I imagine about myself, you'll find it a lot more interesting” –Anne Shirley "Seemingly your father nor mother taught you that as a man, it's your job to protect and provide for women and lead strong families. As men, had you done your job, you wouldn't be living in a matriarchal society." - Janedoenut, 2018 |

Anyway, not sure why your thread triggered this but it's always a good read. Quoting: janedoenut Sure, if you want to ignore the meaning of the term fasting in order to impose your own viewpoint onto something that is not limited to the bible or biblical times.. No problem! The bible says that he was hungry because he fasted. Many kinds of fasts will leave you hungry, even if you still eat certain things. Anyway that all being said, Buddhists and Hindus do have practices wherein very advanced yogis supposedly "live off the air" so to speak, so it's not like your version of Jesus's fast is without precedent.. Neither is it unique. It's just not necessary for spiritual attainment, said attainment being the reason folk do month long retreats in the first place, in all the different faiths. |

I'm pretty sure that what I was talking about had to do with quotes such: "began to be hungry and started to look for victual to eat, and they found it not. Then Eve said to Adam: 'My lord, I am hungry. Go, look for (something) for us to eat." "...found no victual such as they used to have in paradise." "...but found only animals food." and "For I will spend forty days fasting, ... and lift up a stone and stand on it in the water up to thy neck" I am also positive I mentioned absolutely nothing about Jesus. You can't even seem to read what I wrote before applying your own interpretation whilst accusing me of doing the same. I was dying (very, very serious, don't wanna go into details) ~ the deep state knew, they covered up what was seen on my x-rays. I was in and out of this world, supernatural, demonic attacks, my cats laid on top of me and fought entities in the air with their paws. I was under surveillance, it was like a movie. If you only knew exactly all I have gone through, sp many of you wouldn't drop those damn oneliners telling me to fast etc. I've done it more and deeper, and other alchemical hardcore real challenges, then anyone alive right now, God knows, the deep state satanists knows. Why else write obsessively about me in code, over 10 years... . This is all about You. |
