GUN SHOTS 6TH ST AUSTIN TX

Just heard from my daughter, she was walking with her friend in downtown Austin around 6th street when a bunch of gunfire went off (she said at least 20 rounds, and she is fire-armed trained so I believe her). They crouched down and ran and hid in a bar, then heard more gunfire close by and took off out the back way, running far enough away to catch their breath and call an uber.

Anybody have any information, this area is all clubs and businesses.

6th street east of i35 improved a lot with gentrification and 6th street west of Congress is the "upscale" area.

I would not go to dirty 6th (between Congress and I35)

That territory is heavily occupied by the 6th Street Bros, the predominant african-american gang in Austin. They shot up my middleschool when I lived there (ohenry). They are constantly at war with the east side Mexicans who's popular affiliation would be the outlaws who wear maroon and loosely affiliated with the Latin Kings.

She should stick to the drag in front of the capitol building.

Stupid move but I just remember feeling safe. Now whenever you go to 6th, not going to lie a lot of bums asking for money! It's sad.

6th east of I35 used to be all Hispanic 15 years ago, but the gentrification allowed 6th street east of i35 to have alot of clubs open for alot of different groups

Cartels violence there is almost nonexistent they keep a low profile in Austn bc it’s one of their main distributions points to get their drugs to Chicago, Memphis, East coast etc... Murders bring to much heat.
