My experience with bulgrarian people are that they are very simply not very good at hand work jobs,Sofia is in fact a prove of that. Most of them send money and products back to their families in Bulgaria. I've also heard that their spa and ski resorts are popular with the Greeks of norther Greece, who visit there often. With our financial crisis many businesses relocated in Bulgaria, mostly to avoid the huge taxes here. So, i guess, Bulgaria just needs one good politician in charge to find ways to improve the country's income (cheap and not so cheap tourism could be a good source) and fight the corruption. Ostria |

So, i guess, Bulgaria just needs one good politician in charge to find ways to improve the country's income (cheap and not so cheap tourism could be a good source) and fight the corruption. yep, one of my grandmothers worked in Greece in the 90s taking care of old Greek people, one of the old men she took care of was telling her you bulgarians are a barbarian tribe In 2001 King Simeon came back to Bulgaria and won elections and became Prime Minister. He was last ruler of Kingdom of Bulgaria until 1945, but he was only a child back then, his father died 1943 so he took the throne at young age. Then Communist party took power and he was exiled. After 1989 when Soviet Union was dissolved and all Eastern European regimes fell he came back after exile for first time and there were thousands of people on the streets welcoming him. They thought he was good politican that will improve country income. So in 2001 finally he made political party and won the eletcions. He had ministers who worked in West, who were experts and supposed to change the standart of living. In 2001 his party won 1,952,513 votes, 42% and first political power. In 2009 his party won 127,470 votes and 3% and that was his end. Now nobody wants to hear about him. He didn't touch the oligarchs. There needs to be a massive revolution, an army coup or something like that. All oligarchs rounded up and put in prison and Bulgaria to ally with Russia. We saw Russia was broke in 90's but after Putin took power it all changed. Maybe Russia can help Bulgaria. Last Edited by Black Sea on 10/16/2018 09:08 AM |

Quoting: Black Sea I hate to say it to you but you know they have oligarchs in Russia too, right? If Russia is so much better why is all opposition silenced and why did Putin made a very unpopular pension reform? Yes of course, but it is quite different. Now the EU gives subsidies to Bulgarian government and they use this money to build new highways. I read an article recently when Simeon became PM in 2001 he had a plan that these subsidies from EU to be used for lesser roads and highways to be built with money from other investors, it was something along these lines. But then these people came to him and told him your majesty you know that the matter with road building is in the hands of such and such people and not yours and to forget his plan. Now tell me is it possible a russian oligarch to go to Putin and tell him, Dear Vladimir this sector is ours, we deal with it not you. We all know this famous Putin video and the factory oligarchs The time in 90's when Russia was in horrendous economic situation like Bulgaria is today, when oligarchs were running the country and doing what they want are over. Just a comparison of Russia under Yeltsin called "The father of oligarchy" and Putin : Under Yeltsin : GDP 195 bn USD GDP per person 1320 USD Inflation 36.5% Gold & FX reserves 12.6 bn USD National debt 78% GDP Pension 499 rubles Salary 1522 rubles Under Putin: GDP 2111 bn USD GDP per person 148000 bn USD Inflation 6.5% Gold & FX reserves 511 bn USD National debt 8% GDP Pension 10000 rubles Salary 29940 rubles Last Edited by Black Sea on 10/16/2018 11:13 AM |

If Russia is so much better why is all opposition silenced and why did Putin made a very unpopular pension reform? About your second question, all opposition is not sileneced. The Russian Communist Party is the biggest opposition and has always been in second place in elections since year 2000 . Before Putin came to power in 1999 even they won the elections for State Duma. Their worst result is 3rd place in 1993. RCP openly critisizes Putin government on different issues. Zyuganov leader of the party is a harsh critic of President Vladimir Putin. Also see this video conversation between Putin and a journalist who has a radio program in Russia where he is freely defending NATO policies and what Putin told him about it. |

Here's an example, it "factually" states: Bulgaria leads the EU when it comes to one unpalatable indicator – the prevalence of corruption Really? Ever wonder how did they establish that? Transparency International said so, that's how. Bwahahahaha. TI's Corruption Index is the biggest BS there is. The idea that they can accurately quantify and rank countries by corruption based on "opinion surveys" is hilarious. You should also check who funds Transparency International. |

The idea that they can accurately quantify and rank countries by corruption based on "opinion surveys" is hilarious. You should also check who funds Transparency International. "A study published in 2002 found a "very strong significant correlation" between the Corruption Perceptions Index and two other proxies for corruption: black market activity and overabundance of regulation. All three metrics also had a highly significant correlation with real gross domestic product per capita (RGDP/Cap); the Corruption Perceptions Index correlation with RGDP/Cap was the strongest, explaining over three fourths of the variance." - "International Validation of the Corruption Perceptions Index: Implications for Business Ethics and Entrepreneurship Education". Journal of Business Ethics. Springer Netherlands. 35 (3): 177–189. One important thing - The CPI measures perception of corruption due to the difficulty of measuring absolute levels of corruption. Anyway you don't even need TI's Corruption Perception Index to tell you that Bulgaria is most corrupt country in EU. It is actually self-evident. |
