Fake news about hypersonic wunderweapons pops up about once per quarter, it's all bullshit. No nation on Earth has an effective defense against a full-on nuclear first strike. If ICBMS fired in large quantities , most will get through. A single one can destroy a dozen cities... and this has been true for decades. Submarines can sneak up off a nation's coast and fire depressed trajectory missiles that will strike in a matter of 3-4 minutes, before NORAD would even have a chance to spit out their coffee. And once again, that was the case since the late 60's. |

Yes, but they don't have nearly as many as we do, and we probably have the technology to track them at all times. That seems like a first priority research project that would have been completed 30 years ago. We also have space lasers to shoot down their 'hypersonic' missiles. |

The conspiratorial provocative ones have hundreds of thousands of views. Darpa's own podcast? each video has about 600 views. Do they manipulate these numbers? Probably, but i also think people are stupid and dont care about this stuff to the point we have fallen far far behind the pack in the world when it comes to knowledge of defense. This isn't a bad thing necessarily, if everyone had degrees in chemistry there would be poisonings every five minutes. We bring our research from H1B Visas as long as they only see one singular aspect of a single project. We should be raising a generation of rocket scientists definitely though. |

However I will admit that China is currently in the lead on hypersonice research. [link to www.defenseone.com (secure)] [link to www.sciencedirect.com (secure)] The consensus view is that China, so far, is winning the hypersonics race, largely through financial brute force. USAF Gen. Paul J. Selva, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in January that China has made hypersonics research “a national program”—a kind of Manhattan Project—and it is “willing to spend … up to hundreds of billions to solve the problems of hypersonic flight, hypersonic target designation and then, ultimately, engagement.” Chinese state media announced in March, for example, that China is building a 265-meter long wind tunnel to simulate the environment from Mach 10 to Mach 25, which is to be complete by 2020. It already has tunnels capable of simulating conditions between Mach 5 to 9. Though the US has hypersonic tunnels, most are quite small, for tests lasting less than a few seconds. USA got ALIEN TECH.Period I don't know who gave me a one star, I don't post many threads and I guess it's a bad thing from what I have read elsewhere here on GLP...I'm not upset per se....I come to GLP to see news and I try to only post stuff I think is newsworthy and since there are and have been a lot of vets and current military on here I was trying to get a bead on whether this was legit or BS... I'm not on here for karma or stars or whatever, just to have an idea of what's really happening in the world... A daughter and stepdaughter of Navy and Army WWII vets (passed on and RIP) and currently married to a Vietnam vet, I appreciate and honor those who have served...believe me. if I had been born later (or earlier) I would have also served, but due to my family circumstances it wasn't to be....nonetheless, I like to hear insight from those who have experience and know what they are talking about... Anyway, I appreciate the responses especially given the other threads about Apple and China right now.... Having been around the military almost all my life and spending a lot of time at the VA hospitals with my dad, stepdad and more recently husband, I am truly thankful for those who have served (freedom is far from free and it tears me up when I see some of the vets and their sacrifice of their health) and it concerns me when I see anything that could possibly endanger those who are serving now.... Anyway, sorry if it's tabloid BS...but I didn't know and wanted to find out... I will continue to post if I see something I feel is thread-worthy.....as I hope everyone else does...
