There's no getting around the natural human cycle of wakefulness. Unless Assad and Putin have their soldiers all on stimulants, an attack at night means the defense forces have slower reflexes and higher chance of mistakes due too tiredness. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72626591 Makes sense, but don't they have 24/7 rotation of troops for this purpose? |

Quoting: lightchild_uk BUT why does the USA attack at night with missiles? 1. Missiles can be tracked by radar 2. Missiles could be more visible in a clear night sky 3. The enemy is expecting to be attacked at night 4. The enemy can probably respond better in the cooler night air 5. Night vision technology is widely available 6. Less going on at night, less chance of the fog of war 7. More chance of civilians seeing missiles flying during the day, creating panic and disruption. What have I missed? because if we attacked by day with pillows we would get our ass handed to us. |

Less civilian movement at night and less chance of causing casualties to civilians. If you target a building in the day, then there could be a lot of people moving in and around that building. At night there's less people. |

Another reason being when the cameras are rolling, they have a higher chance of amplifying the shock and awe factor, with the night sky becoming electrified with the weapons of war. Affecting the population, as well as the opposing force's morale. Having sleep deprivation can be the equivalent of feeling intoxicated. Combined with the mental stress of an active threat, and you got rich soil for seeds of doubt and self preservation to be sewn.
