DRONE RESCUE! World first, two drowning boys saved by lifeguard drone
Two boys are dramatically rescued from a rip by a DRONE in a world-first operation which saw lifeguards get the job done without getting their feet wet

Two teenage boys sucked out to sea by a rip tide have been saved from drowning by a in a world-first rescue in Australia.

Monty Greenslade, 16 and Gabe Vidler, 17, were spotted struggling in rough surf off Lennox Head, New South Wales, at 10.30am AEST today by two teen girls.
The pair were trapped amid 10ft waves and not easily accessible by boat, but were saved after a drone flew out and dropped an inflatable for them to cling on to.

Footage shows the remote controlled aircraft fly above the teenagers before dropping an inflatable device which landed almost within arm's reach.

Within 35 seconds of take-off the float had been dropped down to the boys, who hung on as waves pushed them back to shore where lifeguards took over.

The pair were were completely unharmed during their ordeal, apart from fatigue.

This was cool and at last a good use for a drone.

A network of autonomous drone isles that patrol in search of humans.

They could also be used to help in oil spills.

I think FPV drone racing will go mainstream. It's fun as all getout. Super adrenaline rush, yet safe and fosters a Science/Technology/Electronics/Math experience that the whole family can get involved in. I'll fly FPV for life. No more line of sight for me. FPV is just too much fun. You should check it out.
Quadcopters already have all kinds of uses. Wildfire/Crop observation, tactical surveillance, mapping, Crane/MegaMech preventative maintenance and inspection, search and rescue, etc. They're used for lots of stuff.

When I was a kid, even a fairly crappy RC car from Tandy was £20. Back then that was a lot of money.

RC planes and copters were the preserve of diehard hobbyists. They cost a fortune.

Things have changed.

You want to take a look into radio controlled fishing boats. Some have GPS on them, cameras, all bells and whistles.

when i was young a radio controlled car had a wire attached between the car and handset. Nothing in the least remote about it.

They catch the fish, in nets and haul the catch onboard - automagically?
