HeWhoKnows User ID: 75790951 Federated States of Micronesia 11/03/2017 09:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The average gestation period for Pneumonic plague ranges from 3 to 6 hrs after initial infection. Carriers (who are infected) remain asymptomatic and show no signs of infection. They will begin to experience coughing, sneezing, and congestion in the upper respiratory tracts. At least 8 to 12 hours after infection, carriers become highly infectious to people around them. Surface areas where they breath, cough, and sneeze upon will become contaminated with the Pneumonic Plague pathogen for up to 36 hours and the bacteria can crawl on solid or liquid surfaces 20 meters per hour. Consequently the name Madagascar in the local African dialect of this large island literally translates to "Black Wind". How strange is that? What is driving this is the speed at which it is going from infection to severe to death.. Sure antibiotics will cure this.. But in some cases, from the time that severe enough symptoms have presented themselves it is 24 hours to death... Quoting: FeelingAwake It is spreading via aerosol(coughing, sneezing) which makes it the best vector for spreading anything in a highly populated area... If they dont get a handle on this they are going to be in some big fucking trouble.. Unlike Ebola, which we all feared was going to go aerosol, this one IS.. And unless you have the RIGHT antibiotics on hand and close, you could be f*cked in a short amount of time... Right now it is a small number but if this hits the 20k mark, the 20,000,000 mark is just a few short hops away and you aren't going to be able to stop it... QUARANTINE MADAGASCAR!! Because you know, in the name of diversity and refugees. Anyone that speaks out against it is a racist and germophobe. Anonymous Coward User ID: 36390685 United States 11/04/2017 12:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They are hiding/scrubbing the deaths from this outbreak. The infected number has risen dramatically but the fatal cases have stalled out. There is always a delay in reporting the outcomes but something does not add up. Add to this that it is mostly pneumonic cases we are dealing with which have a much higher Cfr. I give it one week max before it hitches a ride, most likely to other East African nations, but Europe would certainly be close behind. This thing has a chance of breaking out big time. As others mentioned, when the cases rise rapidly, health care systems get bogged down. HCW get sick, the system that is supposed to treat the infected fails, as does every other system including just in time delivery. From there on nobody knows what would happen. The panic would likely be far worse than the plague itself. |
