User ID: 23615172 United States 09/04/2017 12:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All good suggestions!! I can only add - keep your tub and sinks clean. You'll want to be able to fill them all up at the first sign of trouble. If you don't have a lot of drinking water stashed - this'll give you a lot....hence keep them clean, so you don't have to rush to do it last minute. This water can also be used to flush the toilet. If you live in a building where a pump is used to get the water to you - it'll stop working when the power goes out. So no toilet and no tap water. And while you may not want to drink tub water, no matter how clean the tub - your pets will happily drink it. Sidenote: As long as you have water, the toilet tank is actually a good spot to keep things cold. A simple spot for your milk if the power goes and you don't have a cooler yet. Personally - I used to prep but nowadays, I don't. Every time I think about it - I keep being told that "God will provide". So until that voice changes to "stock up now"...I don't prep. If a blizzard is coming - I do make sure I'm good for a week...but that's it. God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

Da ghetto survivor..... User ID: 74978217 United States 09/04/2017 01:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Get a fold up solar panel with usb to charge your electronics.....works great on fire escape or window sill...have a supply of rechargable batteries too.... A large clean tarp on roof can catch rain water funneled into pails.... If your water is cut off, a 5 gal. pail with a toilet seat affixed on top and filled with scoopable cat litter works for indoor toilet..... Get a cheap sterno stove to heat food, the catering canned heat (sterno) can be found cheaply in 99cent stores.... 2 liter soda bottles and bleach to store water... A small power supply made of deep cycle 12v batteries and an inverter can power a lot of 120v items....the battery is charged by solr panel or a small 12v generator.... If you live in an apartment, you can store a couple of filled gas cans in the trunk of your car for safety....if not needed, the gas can just be put into your tank....the gas can be used for bugging out or running the generator... |

Quoting: Doomamatrix First: you have room! Yes you do. Have you a bed or futon? Then you have a lot of unused space! Get the low plastic tubs for under bed storage. These should have a lid that clicks. In this store your bagged goods of rice, beans, peas and pasta. Also packets of soup and oatmeal. Canned goods can store under the bed as can flats of water. Closet: now is a good time to clean it out. Those people in Houston can use the clothes and you need the room. Closet is the best place for the $1.00 gal jugs of water you get at big lots. Also TOILET paper! Never enough of this! Drawers: your batteries, flashlights and more canned goods can stash away with socks and undies. Balcony: get some cheap plastic utility shelves, cover with a colorful tarp and stash more water or canned goods there. Get a habaichi and things needed for it and hide that there too. Cash: start to squirrel some bills now in 10and 20. 100's may be a hassle to make change with later on. I'd rather run for the Hills/woods for several weeks if North Korea was to launch an invasion along with Russia and China. My main mission and assignment for now is to try to awake as much people i can to the danger of a red dawn scenario. |

SALT!! Quoting: Copernica the Proud American Salt is as important to survival as water is. Yes! Forgot that! Also, baking soda. Good to clean your teeth and the tub! Obamacare: Never has so much been taken away from so many for so few. |

SALT!! Quoting: Copernica the Proud American Salt is as important to survival as water is. Yes! Forgot that! Also, baking soda. Good to clean your teeth and the tub! And vinegar. With salt and vinegar - you can preserve all the things. :) And I've been thinking about Alas, Babylon - there's a bunch of little things in there that would be handy. Simple things, like an old victrola, for a little music. And I don't remember anything else off hand. Just that they found things in the attic that they used. It's also a good book to tell you what NOT to do. I really need to do a reread - it's such a good book. God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 67684091 United States 09/05/2017 12:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | --------------- Buy a buncha cheap 5 gallon buckets with lids. They take little space in a closet when you nest them, but you can fill them with water and stack them in a corner if you need to. you can buy food grade plastic liners so that the bucket chemicals don't leach into the water. I think i got a box of $25 for $11? -------------- Sawyer mini filter. $20 on amazon, will filter 100K gallons. Google tutorials on how to use it. Will not kill virus, so buy a bottle of plain bleach. Replace every 6 months as bleach degrades and will not kill the buggies after a while. You can buy tabs as well. North america doesn't usually have virus in the water and usually a filter is sufficient, but in a situation where you may have sewage tainted water, or bodies floating, you want the ability to kill virus. you can also get aqua tabs (100 tabs for $10 on amazon) which will kill the virus, but will not kill all the beasties that the filter will remove. Used in conjunction, it's a pretty good system. You can get chlorine dioxide tablets and they will kill everything. they are spendy. Can take up to 4 hours to work, but very portable. They were hard to get until recently as *the govt was buying massive quantities the past couple years* Micropur and potable aqua are the brands..potable aqua has other products, make sure it is the chlorine dioxide if that is what you want. ----------- buy the 2400-3600 calorie survival cookies designed to take you through 3 days (or more if you buy more). They are portable, relatively light weight, and filling. You don't want to eat them forever, but it's something to keep you going if you have to abandon all. These, the sawyer mini, and water tablets will sustain you in the worst circumstances and are not a hindrance to carry. |
