I agree. I mean it's not like anybody had a clue the hurricane was coming. It just appeared out of no where. So they wouldn't have had any time to plan ahead. They couldn't have said, "Here comes a big hurricane, and we have this big building that is empty, and we are Christians. Maybe we should try and help out." No, they didn't have time for that. But they did have plenty of time to rake in millions from the suckers who follow them. They always have time to make money off the backs of people they have deceived.

I posted something to that effect days ago.
During Katrina there were not enough facilities for that many people for so long in the AstroDome....and no food.
National Guard had to come to the rescue too.

We ALL know how that played out.

He has been attacked on here for as long as I have been a GLPer. I used to defend him on here -- and was the only person who would do that -- but there were just so many threads about him that I gave up.

I know him, he is a friend and I know his wife and family. Joel is one of the reasons why we moved to Houston. I have only attended Lakewood church a few times and am not a member. I prefer the more traditional 'bible' church.

However, the guy is the real deal. He is genuinely a nice guy. I do not know his wife as much... been around her a lot but we have rarely spoken. From what I have seen, Joel is a little more down to earth.

As far as his 'mansion' here in Houston. They do not use most of that house. They have so many threats that they moved to a house that provided the security they need. That is what drove the purchase of the house... not some desire to live the big life.

Security. There are a lot of nuts out there and his security team and related costs eat up a lot of money. The guy has a right to protect himself and his family... and it is expensive.

The church building. The costs to operate and maintain the building are far higher than the the experts said it would be when they were looking for a new location and doing their due diligence.

It puts a lot of financial demands on Lakewood church. This is not something limited to just Lakewood. Way too many churches, of all sizes, have such high operating costs and the true reason for their existence can become clouded because of that.
