Digging a hole in the backyard is going to attract attention - from neighbors, from code enforcement, from neighbors calling code enforcement. People suck and then they'll expect you to save them. Building a structure in a basement sidesteps all of this drama. There are Civil Defense pdfs from the Cold War that demonstrate how to build a 'bar' out of brick with a ceiling that drops onto the bar and gets mass stacked on it to provide protection. And your booze is right where you'll need it for getting a two to four week drunk on. |

I won't link it because I never know what will get me 'unmembershipped' but if you put Home Fallout Shelter Snack Bar Basement Location Plan D into a search engine you should find it right away. There's all kinds of houses around here that have Prohibition additions. One converted carriage house was a speakeasy and has an observation window in the ceiling where the boss could keep an eye on what was going on. |
