Intermittent Fasting: The Cure All of Cure Alls?
I started intermittent fasting about 2 years ago. Prior to that I would do a 3 day fast two, maybe three times a year. I've found that ANY type of fasting I've done has been hugely beneficial. More so than anything else I've tried. But intermittent Fasting has Trumped them all.

Basically it equates to just eating less. But for people like me who lack will power to eat less regularly, it helps success to designate a specific time period to fast, and commit to it. For me this period is from a 5:00 o'clock dinner to a noon lunch the next day. This worked for me because most of the fast is while I'm asleep. The key here is to give your system at least a 12 hour break from digesting food.

My personal benefits have been:
1. Weight Loss
2. Cognitive Enhancement
3. Better Health
4. Better Sleep (and dreams)
5. More Energy
6. Faster Heal Times (from workouts)
7. Better Overall Mood
8. Better Vision
9. Better Digestion

And now, according to the Neuroscientist in the following short Tedx Video, I'm preventing a whole slew of age related diseases and expanding my lifespan.

My recommendation to everyone who complains of some ailment whether it be headaches to cancer, is to stop eating. Eat less. But the key is the time frame. Give your body a rest. At least 8 hours. If not 12.

Check it.

I've been doing the 4 hour feeding window IF for 3 weeks and lost 1.5kg of what I think was mostly fat (lifting and didn't lose strength) and I feel good. Anyway I don't know if it actually makes you lose weight faster because weight lose is just eating less calories than you need but I can see how people that don't count calories would benefit a lot.

Re: Intermittent Fasting: The Cure All of Cure Alls?
Have you ever seen WW2 documentaries with interviews of survivors of Auschwitz? Usually Jewish, these men and woman are in there late 70's or early 80's and they look super fit and very young. Their minds are sharp, they are never over weight and they look 20 years younger than their age. Talk about fasting? (oh brother) Did they fast. I believe long periods of fasting changes the body's chemistry into a survival mode. Maybe the blood breaks down artery clogging fats and cholesterol, then remembers to do that "forever"! Whatever the mechanism, fasting does extend our lives.

prolonged fasting will turn the ketosis mode on... it turn the body into a fatburning machine. Most people stay 20g carb in ketosis.

my ketosis limit is 70g carb each day.

Re: Intermittent Fasting: The Cure All of Cure Alls?
My weight loss was noticeable. I worked out regularly and ran every day for the most part. Usually 5 miles. But even with that I didn't lose much weight and I've been running for years. I'm 6'4" and I was 250 pounds before the intermittent fasting. Definitely wasn't fat. Just huge.

Once I started the fasting the weight fell off. I went from being football player big to lean and muscular. Anyone I hadn't seen in a month was like holy fuck dude! How'd you lose all the weight?? My mother cried and she hadn't seen me in a year.

I'm now down to 215 pounds. My optimum weight. My mile times have dropped by a full minute. I'm more flexible.

The fasting has changed everything. I'm 41 years old and most people would guess I'm about 28. I feel ethereal and light. I can't say enough good stuff about the fasting lifestyle. It's part of me now. It's a way of life. It's not a trend. My wife jokingly calls it The Fast Life.

in the ketosis mode, the body breaks fat down and gets glucose from fat oxidation..

The brain needs only 20g carb each day, he gets this from breaking protein in muscles.

All other organs can run completely on ketones.

thats why the cancer starve.

Re: Intermittent Fasting: The Cure All of Cure Alls?
Fasting for me has shown me what foods are bad for me. Like milk.

I used to get really bad dry patches of skin and I never realized it was milk until I started fasting because I never paid attention to what I ate.

After a fast you are conscious of the first thing you eat because it's a treat. So over a couple months I realized that milk equaled dandruff and irritated dry skin for me. I quit dairy and haven't had a problem in over a year.

I don't think it'll cure everything, but fasting has lots of benefits.

As an ex olympian I eat every second day.....day on day off. The first five days of every month I fast. I just don't that extra side order every day. I really look forward to letting my body rest. So much bad sruff in our diets and world. Less is more and Dr Walter Longo is the guy that confirms all that we know is right.

Re: Intermittent Fasting: The Cure All of Cure Alls?
The toughest fast is the first. People panic at the thought of not constantly eating. Like they'll die or something. LOL!

Starting off simply by skipping a meal here and there is a good way to start. Skip a meal once a week for a month. Then skip another meal on another day each week. Continue until you are only eating two meals maximum a day, every day of the year.

Every once in awhile skip an entire day.

The key here is to give your body a 12 hour break so the meal you skip can never be lunch. It has to be either breakfast or dinner.

And, you do not want to eat less than 4 hours before bed. Going to bed with food in your stomach is horrible for you.

I usually have a small salad or some yogurt for breakfast. Have a healthy organic lunch. And then I have a light dinner, usually around 4:00 pm. Then I go to bed around 10:00.

If I'm hungry I have some lemon ice water. A couple times a year I make a lemon ginger root cleanse and I drink that every day for a week. It totally purges toxins and boosts PH levels.

TEDx will only tell you so much…

I have been fasting for years and getting similar benefits, but what is even more powerful is praying to God on issues that just won't go away or are annoying… like any addiction: lust, sloth, over-eating, self-defeating, etc…

Jesus says that there are some demons that do not come out without fasting and prayer…

while fasting, pray a few times to God in Jesus's name and watch issues that you thought were just part of your genes or family traditions, just evaporate…

anyone who does this will be shocked how manipulated we have been, because most of us are programmed to be hyper-sexual and lustful and thus detached from real feelings of love and even unable to find their soul mate and have a family and truly happy life…

not to mention eternal life in Christ.

It'S the best thing over ever done for myself (other than read the Bible and go to church).

But you will never hear the media touted the benefits of fasting because there is no way to profit from it ... there is nothing to sell.

Instead they will talk about the benefits of 7 small meals a day and advertise 100 calorie snack packs.
