It has been said, that the lack of binoculars in the crow's nest, may have doomed the Titanic. They were aboard, but not given to the lookout.

There were also some titans of industry who were enticed to travel on the Titantic's maiden voyage. These very same men were also very much against the formation of the Federal Reserve the following year. Yes, the lack of binoculars in the crow's nest didn't help, but it was quite a conspiracy otherwise. One of the possibilities that the Titanic was actually the Olympic which has been severely damaged by the very same captain of the doomed Titanic and switched before slipping out of the dry dock.

I'd say very good question. Probably wasn't an iceberg at all (see two posts quoted by Mister Obvious above, they sum it up really), like the twin towers weren't brought down by a couple of passenger jets.
