Only mental problems can explain Americans inability to appreciate soccer

I am an American. I love America. I know that Americans aren't stupid. So, how do you explain that Americans don't appreciate soccer? I'm thinking it's a mental problem. Though I don't necessarily blame us. Maybe the problem is mass hysteria. Basically the media hypnosis plot line for U.S. involves ignorance of soccer.

Also, don't reply to tell me what word soccer is called in your country. I am an American. We speak American. If American isn't English that's because America is not an English colony. Plus, it's just a word, who cares? I never got mad at a southerner referring to soda as pop. In fact, I find it charming.

TPTB have been trying to push soccer down our throats for years now. Forcing it on our kids in school, creating that obnoxious class of women called "soccer moms". We don't like soccer. Let the rest of the world play.
