You watch an entire game without keeping track of the score... then at the end, try and determine who the best team is purely by the play you saw on the field. In a soccer, game both teams look equally shitty or good no matter how mismatched. One team just freaks a ball into the net one time more than the other. Shitty basketball is about the same. |

Maybe, but when I try to watch hockey I can't find the puck. Why did Fox stop using that graphic enhancement on the puck? It was awesome. At least they should put the games on two channels, one with the puck overlay and one without. The President is an employee. His boss is the tax payer. |

Mostly because I've personally tried my hand at them. Soccer requires skill and it's rewarding when you start to get better control of the ball and can kick harder, it's fun. Football too is fun, making cool plays, it's fun. Basketball, training, grabbing the rim. I'm not very tall so I never stuck with basketball. I'm not a fan of any sport really, but I can see the appeal in any sport. People who say a sport sucks suck at athletics themselves. Especially the fat guys who love football. Don't get me started on them. Loud mouths if you put them on the field would be getting heart stroke and vomiting like nobodies business yet aren't shy to speak out of turn about how soccer is for pussies. |

(OP) User ID: 69612114 United States 07/26/2015 12:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | TPTB have been trying to push soccer down our throats for years now. Forcing it on our kids in school, creating that obnoxious class of women called "soccer moms". We don't like soccer. Let the rest of the world play. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60033700 That's the only problem I have with it. I hate being aligned with TPTB. Purely as a sport though, I think soccer is awesome. American Football is better, but no reason to dislike soccer, IMO. The President is an employee. His boss is the tax payer. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69347280 United States 07/26/2015 12:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Soccer or football, to me, is a poor man sport and that is why its so popular world wide. I mean you kick a ball around. Any country can get a coconut and kick it around with their friends. Now a sport like american football or handball will never be popular in a poor country for a few reasons. 1) All that equipment is not cheap. You can choose to play without a helmet and pads, but if the players get big and strong enough they will kill each other like they did in the 30s here. 2) The rules are complicated if you have never watched a game. Compared to soccer its night and day. 3) To improve as a player you need to hit the gym or weight room and honestly most poor countries are lucky to have a rope and ball to work our with. The same goes for other rich country sports like rugby, badminton, and other such sports. Soccer will always be the worlds most popular sport because most countries are poor as hell. |

We used to have a joke, walk by a soccer field and yell "Hey Geno!" every kid on the field will look up. |

So, how do you explain that Americans don't appreciate soccer? I'm thinking it's a mental problem. Though I don't necessarily blame us. Maybe the problem is mass hysteria. Basically the media hypnosis plot line for U.S. involves ignorance of soccer. Quoting: Pride of Pompeii Also, don't reply to tell me what word soccer is called in your country. I am an American. We speak American. If American isn't English that's because America is not an English colony. Plus, it's just a word, who cares? I never got mad at a southerner referring to soda as pop. In fact, I find it charming. It's just plain stupid. We understand it, we just don't like it. Our American sports are far and above way better than stupid soccer. Soccer is what you put little kids into to help develop hand/eye coordination to prepare them to play better sports. |
