Quoting: InsertWittyNameHere I find it interesting that even though I have not seen any of the films, the enormity and "Cultural status" of the series means that I can name characters and have a basic outline of what the films are about. It just goes to show the effect of mass marketing/exposure etc. My friends think it is bizarre that I was a child of the 80's but haven't seen the Star Wars films. Has anyone else not seen any films that you are assumed to have watched simply because of the decade you grew up in? If so, do you feel as if want to watch them, or feel as if you don't want to bother? There are a lot of so - called "Classic" films that many children are assumed to have seen, but I haven't, such as the following: Mary Poppins Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Charlie and the chocolate factory The Snowman Bedknobs and broomsticks The wizard of Oz The sound of music and many more. What did you see? Diener und Herr zugleich |

I remember saying to my mum that I wish I had a big bed to sleep in like hers! There was a huge inflatable ET in the foyer of the cinema also. Films i did see were Gremlins, Back to the future, Bambi (at the cinema for my best friends birthday), Goonies, and strangely I was allowed to watch Alien on video when I was about 6 I think. That’s the thing about progress; all the word means is “continued movement in the same direction.” If the direction was a bad idea to start with, or if it’s passed the point at which it still made sense, continuing to trudge blindly onward into the gathering dark may not be the best idea in the world. Break out of that mental straitjacket, and the range of possible futures broadens out immeasurably. John Michael Greer |

It was just different & new at the time. Watch Dark Star.. now that's a fun movie.. about a crew going round blowing up unstable stars.. till one of the H bombs awoke to consciousness all of a sudden, thought about blowing itself up for a while.. then .. don't wanna spoil the ending.. so please do.. watch it some late night. |

Some of those you should see. They are much like required reading from high school....especially The Wizard of Oz. Much to be learned from what the story is really saying. ...and that is "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"...1971. The other one "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is a ripoff remake hack job with Johnny Depp in it. Stick with the original. Last Edited by Useless Cookie Eater on 11/30/2014 03:58 PM |

I am hoping to watch the original with my young children this Christmas - I was a huge fan of Roald Dahl books. Unfortunately we didn't cover Wizard of Oz at school but did do Alice in wonderland. CaptiveR User ID: 65424772 United Kingdom 11/30/2014 04:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well me old fruitcake, here's the thing about the Star Wars. Basically a long long time ago... there's this bloke right, and he doesn't know what on earth is going on, but he knows he wants to know. So off he goes and there is a dustbin tweeter which leans back and bumps into the gold gay robot 2345 a lot. Soon enough, there's this darkened caricature with a lid upstairs which was formed along side the big bang itself and he gets very upset about things which don't go his way including his lost child or children. Many battles ensue, and many a small flotted footed boo-boo's who live in trees, save some of the say along with a king gorilla and his mate who in another life, narrowly escapes a train crashing into his overturned prison bus. More off-handed battles continue with names like Funtered bleep booper and Rhubarb-fet and Arman Fosterbearer, J-5+jolty and K-K 34992-pie=9 packs of sunberry suns jessop, and Aunt Lilly with sandwich packs for laser beams. According to Eddie Izzard there is this star which does death. The stars death will become one of irony, but not before lunchtime and our darkened lidded caricature (Jeff Vader), burns a bit more of himself but nobody knows for sure how good the penne all'arrabiata actually is, although Mr Stevens head of catering has been notified by a Klingon who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anyway, there's this thing called 'the force', which is the backbone of all of the things which happen in and amongst the Star Wars, and is apparently also the reason for everything that does not happen. The force is apparently responsible for the highway I-19 auto accident of 1957, the force has also been noteworthy for the writings of a one, Edgar Allen Poe in his work entitled 'The Raven'. This very same force may or may not be the root cause of why watching paint dry is considered to be very dull indeed, however, i digress. Did i mention the woman? Ahh, well there's this broad ok, right? This broad also has a feeling about something, but by this time all the caricatures have a similar floating/falling type feeling about serious life things, ya dig? Well anyway, i seem to recall another element of the Star Wars and that is a little green 'poke yer stick at it hope it works' caricature, who teachers our wanting to know something bloke, about this force, and so forth. Star Wars... it's all about the things which took place. |

I have zero interest in seeing any new Star Wars-related movies. |
