I'd try another litterbox in a separate area, make sure it is clean. Also could be the litter, try a different brand. Check paws for injuries. Good luck |

It's been the usual cat crap. You know. Nothing nasty or bloody. Quoting: C. 11118 The female (only one of three) has chosen to poop on the floor at the doorway of the litterbox for two weeks, at least. We have wood floors, but that's beside the point. We are getting tired of it and we've tried everything. Any worthwhile suggestions? Keep filthy animals outside. Ding ding ding! |

Some cat's don't like to use those. Or get yourself a cheap aluminum turkey baking tray and set that out just to see. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49261561 Thank you. This little bitch has two to choose from; she has been around (we rescued her from the local shelter) for at least a year. She knows the rules and she's just being a bitch. She's hiding from me right now. I am gonna push her nose into it this time! little bitch? She is an innocent animal trying to find her way, and needs some help and an intelligent human. Yeah. Owner is not approaching the problem with compassion. Sounds like an abusive situation. She/he doesn't understand their cats' needs at all. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 58700537 United States 10/19/2014 05:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason cats will avoid the litter box are many. We have 8 cats and they all use the box and are clean as a whistle. And we’ve raised cats (as breeders of purebreds) so we know a bit about cat psychology too. 1. You need at least two large liter boxes if you have three cats. Two cats can share a box. Three cats have trouble doing so. 2. Change brands of litter. Put a different brand in box #2 and see who uses/prefers it. If you find they’re all three using the same box, then just change box #1 to the new brand also. 3. Clean the boxes daily or more often if need be. Some cats are so particular that if there is other cat feces (besides their own) showing, they will refuse the box. 4. Try a clumping kind of litter. We use FRESH STEP or TIDY CAT. Both are easy to scoop and control odor very well. 5. when someone makes a mistake, take them to the box and put them gently in it. They’ll get the idea that the right place is “here”. Be soft and soothing and do not yell at them. I know it can drive you crazy but there is a reason. You just have to find it and correct the problem they are seeing/having. 6. Put a rug or a mat under the litter box. The problem may be one of her feeling the sand and the wood floor. The mat or rug will give her a “boarder” on which to be sure she is going to the box and going far enough. 7. Be sure she does not have diarrhea and have the vet check her to make sure she has not lost full control of her bowels. It’s very rare, but something physically could be awry. 8. KEEP THE BOXES (both of them - you really need a 2nd one w/ three cats) as clean as humanly possible for a while anyway. Every day and possibly 2x per day. Give the erring cat first crack at it when it’s clean and fresh. GOOD LUCK. Something is bothering you female. Don’t know exactly what but cats are by nature very clean and want their liter contained and covered after they make urine or feces in the box. For a cat to go outside of the box means there is a real problem as far as she is concerned. Just be patient and kind with her. Showing your exasperation will not help although I is tempting, I know. |

User ID: 48107121 United Arab Emirates 10/19/2014 05:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cats don't speaka the English so you can't reason with it. What you need to do although it isn't exciting is add more litter boxes. With indoor cats you have no choice you need more litter boxes than cats. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5439482 ^This^ With indoor cats, the general rule of thumb is that you have 1 litter box per 1 cat - minimum. You need to add at least one more tray. Cats are very sensitive to smells and you have introduced a new scent to the existing family smell that your 2 other cats have already established (ever see them rubbing their faces on things? This is them establishing their family scent and then spreading it around...). She will be feeling unnerved at the moment and very uncomfortable in her home. She won't poop in the covered area as she will more than likely fear an attack (cats are usually very clean animals, but they are vulnerable when they go to the bathroom... It will take her a while to get used to the new scent, and she may never even get over it - females are much harder to integrate into existing cat families or accommodate new cats into theirs. Sometimes they're fine, most of the time they're not. Males get over it. In the meantime, buy a new box or two. And make sure she has lots of places to hide until she feels more comfortable. "...too weird to live, and too rare to die." Btw, I just killed this thread. |
