User ID: 1398019 United States 10/19/2014 01:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, I'm not, Mister. She is doing it on purpose. Our other cat, who is in his teens is fine with the new kitty. The little bitch is way younger than him and seems to be trying to make a statement. For those of you that asked, here is the deal: They all have one covered and one uncovered box. Each are filled with wood pellets. (You might educate yourselves to the benefits of wood pellets over commercial cat litter, but I won't even go there right now). They have their own room with their own space and SHE HAS NO REASON FOR BEING SUCH A BITCH!!!) So each cat has two litter boxes to themselves? Or there are two litter boxes total?? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 63535056 United States 10/19/2014 01:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is generally recommended to have 1 litterbox per cat, plus an extra, though this advice tends to be somewhat unrealistic in many living situations. It might, however, not be a bad idea to try getting one specifically for the female. The male cats may have marking tendencies that would make entering the litterbox less appealing, or removing a cover problematic. Personally, I only have one cat anymore, but she always pees right at the entrance to the box, which then means she has to cross wet litter or wait for me to clean it to not immediately walk into a smelly mess next time she goes in. (This drives me insane!) If one of your other cats shares this habit, i can she why she might be inclined to protest. Also, as someone else commented, litter dust can be a problem, as can some alternative litters that are made of larger substances which can be rough on the pads on a cats paws. My cat was a stray and the only time she doesn't use her litterbox is when she is sick and in pain. (She has kidney disease and has had some very painful battles with interstitial cystitis.) There was a period, however, where (even though I was using the same brand of litter as always) she would stand outside her freshly changed litterbox and look at me with these sad eyes and cry horribly. She would use the litterbox, in the end, but trying to figure out what was wrong was awful and very frustrating. She eventually developed a horrible asthmatic cough and I became aware that the company had reformulated their litter. For months she made herself use the box even though it was hurting her, because she didn't want to be thrown back outside. Most cats will attempt to convey their point much more like your cat is. You can look at the pads on her feet, and if they are dried out or cracked she could be having an allergic reaction to the litter - which is another possibility outside of dust. Sadly, most the other possible reasons might be hard to identify at a glance. This sounds more like a territorial issue than anything, so I would try getting another box, and possibly experimenting with a different brand of litter. Good luck!! |

Quoting: Anonymous coward 1408355 Anyway it is a sign of stress so getting annoyed will only make her worse. She is a CAT for heavens sake so she is doing what cats do when stressed. Trying to make a big mark about what is her territory. She feels scared and threatened. She needs to feel secure. I would also put a litter tray in the hallway for the time being. The one who is pooping has already been here for a year or more. She is being a bitch. I understand that she's stressed out because of the new guy, but I'll be dammed if she's gonna get away with this shit. She knows better. I just don't know what to do. I'm gonna shove her nose in it this time, but she's hiding from me right now. She knows she was bad. No you are the bitch! You expect an animal to be able to act like a human. She can't. She is a cat and by the law of nature has to act like a cat. Law of nature, right? |

Some cat's don't like to use those. Or get yourself a cheap aluminum turkey baking tray and set that out just to see. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49261561 Thank you. This little bitch has two to choose from; she has been around (we rescued her from the local shelter) for at least a year. She knows the rules and she's just being a bitch. She's hiding from me right now. I am gonna push her nose into it this time! Inspect her front paws... make sure she doesn't have any issues. If paws hurt or are sensitive (or declawed) ...or even past trauma sets behavior where they are reluctant to use a litter box. I have a cat that has an incurable nailbed infection ..can't retract and the claws actually grow curled and ingrow and they have to be trimmed regularly. Cat will crap in litter box but won't bury and typically pees on a carpet in the bathroom... luckily it's a rug I can wash every week ...a rug that is rather plush and soft on the claws! ...anyways if that's not it it's probably the enclosure thing or cat prefers it's own box? anyways... try switching the placement of the covered one with the uncovered one. You might also try different litter if that doesn't work. Cats can be very finicky about particular things. I use a blend of natural litter ...like pine shavings or cedar and regular clumping litter since the natural stuff doesn't clump very well. Then when ever you top it put a layer of clumping with the natural covering it. ...one other thing that can be an issue is if their is problem with the stool. |

She has some kind of eating disorder and never gets full. Consequently weighs about 25 lbs. If that is not bad enough, she has peed on couches, beds, shoes, boots. She is however lucky to be alive today because we had new carpet installed in our basement Friday. The workmen broke for lunch and she went and SHIT on the brand new carpet!!!!!!! My husband was looking for a bullet. At wits end because I don't know what to do but she ruins any home improvements we do. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64217449 Every improvement you do changes the smell and the layout of the house. The more you change the more the cat will feel stressed. They hate change and feel insecure fairly easily. You may need to get someone else to take the cat. The cat tried to make the new carpet a part of it's home. Some cats are much more highly strung than others. |
