UPDATE: Ebola Question - What blood type are the people contracting the virus & what blood type are the ones getting over it?

If you wanted to test a biological weapon, where would you test it? In deepest darkest Africa of course. The first time it was tested was back in the 70's in the most central country of Africa - DRCongo.

Dr. Kent Brantley recovered. He is A+.

After tweaking the recipe and reintroducing back into Africa, it wasn't strong enough and just fizzled out. So they tested it again years later after further tweaking - until I few more tweaks and have come up with a highly virulent strain that appears to be taking hold much more easily!

Duncan was B+. But I don't think it depends on the bloodtype. I have read somewhere that there are certain genes which are responsible for contracting ebola and get over it or die.

Its plasma which containes antibodies. so he got a transfusion of either A or AB if he had A

People with AB are universal plasma donors, people with 0 universal erythrocyte donors

People with 0 can get plasma from any other bloodgroup

My observstion and question is... Are any of them in Africa type "O"? Since it doesn't appear to me that any of our Amnericans infected have been this blood type. I have often thought of this....

For a type O person, they would have zero ( O ) antigens attached to their blood cells. And would have antibodies to any of the A or B antigens. Would this also make their antibodies attck any thing else that would try to attach to theur cells?

No he didn't. It was plasma not blood. Different compatibilities with plasma.

Shouldnt it be targetting the blood type or genes of people in Africa that they dont want? It's not blacks they dont want, it's chinese: apparently the chinese are trying to invest in africa and American interests dont want that. That's why they sent those troops, to shoot the Ebola and guard against other powers trying to come to the continent?

That info is very likely unavailable since many die outside of hospital settings. I would say that with a 70% kill rate, and type O being most common, that it is not immune.

Hemochromatosis gene might play a small protective role. It's a pretty common mutation in European population, especially from the British Isles.

Sorry to ramble on and quoting myself, but I am thinki9ng as I go along here... Is there any chance the Ebola virus is tricking the blood cells into thinking it was either an A or B antigen so it could attach itself? Thus there would be no tricking an O type blood cell?

Not inferring immunity here... Just the ability of Ebola to attach to the blood cells which would cause more severe disease.

Me again... You see there are a lot of people in Africa walking around those that have died. How do we know that they also weren't affected but fought off infection and are immune?

This blood type business could be nothing. But perhaps we need to be looking at those that are alive in Africa vs. those that have died. Most notibly those around the infected. We need to see what they have in common.
