Does it just drip out of the hive to the ground? Quoting: Busterhymen No, they eat it in the winter, as a bee farmer we have to leave them so much honey just for them to eat all winter and they don't starve. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60750309 if you don't want to buy or make your own, Join a bee club and make friends with someone that has one. It also needs to be strained properly, so if you don't have the equipment it would just be better to let the bees enjoy it. |

Can i just scrape the comb and all out? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60750309 yes you could, but the benefit of extracting it properly is the frame is already built out. You can put it back into the hive and it's less work for the bees to start the cycle over. you also don't have to buy as many frames that way. so the benefits of proper extraction out way the scraping of the frame. |

Top bar hives are very difficult to extract honey from. If you just want to pollinate, that is fine but the time tested method of keeping bees in the Langstroth Hive. I guess also if you want to do cut comb, top bar would be fine as well. |

I'm not familiar with the top bar method. but I see many disadvantages to maintaining the hives over many years and producing any large quantity of honey. it looks great to catch a new hive every year and enjoy what they do for your garden, |

User ID: 53604407 United States 08/13/2014 12:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Whats the best way to winter them? After I lost a hive last winter I have built a wind break and plan on putting a blanket over the hives this year. I have a hive and several friends have hives, we are considering bundling them together, but in South central Alaska, not sure a blanket and wind break will work. Chugiakian |

Green honey is good, but only when you expect it. |
