Hitler wasn't racist just for the sake of being racist or to put down other groups. He was friends with Indians, east Asians, and Arabs, and even admired a lot of them. We could even say that his "racism" towards the Jews was just repaying fire with fire, since Jews are notoriously racist and ethnocentric and used nepotism and treachery to gain power over the Germans who had treated them with kindness previously.

The Nazi state affected different people in different ways.

Actually, I will expand on this a bit. Hitler saw the world as three groups of people. Culture creators, culture maintainers, and culture destroyers. He was only against those who were deemed culture destroyers, which included Jews. He saw Europeans and many Asians as culture creators. Arabs and central Asians were culture maintainers. The Nazis posited that this had to do with Aryan migrations. This is why Japanese were labeled "honorary Aryans," since they possessed this kernel of Aryan blood that allowed them to be culture creators.

How can you say German citizens were happy under Nazism? The Nazis promised all sort of things. The post WW1 German government failed its people. Once in power the surveillance began. The promise of no war was a lie. Freedom of expression and all sort of freedoms were destroyed. Individual freedom disappeared as everyone became property of the state. Stalin studied the tactics of the Nazis and imposed them on his own people. Say the wrong thing even casually and get shot. When the media is controlled by the state propaganda is the truth.

People adjust to their environment rather easily. When the state controls everything and tells you when you are happy and what makes you happy then you comply. Peer pressure does a lot of this; you adjust so your interpersonal relationships do not suffer. Your survival may depend on your level of compliance.

Nazism rose from chaos and even took advantage of the chaos to restrict human behavior. The moral of the state became more important than yours. If you were not valuable to the state or cost the state money you were eliminated.

Religions either support the state or become an enemy of the state. If the government becomes its own religion then religions become a liability.

And unless more Americans are willing to have that kind of individual courage, then future generations may well look back on the American people with the same harshness of judgement with which we look back on the 1930s Germans.

There were a lot of Germans that stood up. They were harassed, arrested, shot, exiled, etc. The message was, assimilate or be eliminated. A minority group got enough power together in the government to take total control without the masses knowing what was going on until it was too late.

There are a lot of problems right here and now in the US. Where are the protestors? You say Germans didn't stand up, where are US citizens standing up? Most of the protests help the creation of a fascist state. Most politicians get re-elected even though everything seems to deteriorate. A very small group of people run everything in the country. As long as they are safe and have followers everything will keep going as it is. There is no opposing leader that isn't part of the system.

The Nazis taught all world governments the power of lying and manipulating and the importance of control of all communications. There is a lot of power in telling people what they want to hear. Once the enemy is identified by the state then we will know what's coming.

Of course the US is looking more and more like Nazi Germany. In 1945, we brought all the top Nazis into our country and installed them in the Whitehouse. They have had nearly 60 years to turn the US into something that could not be fully achieved in 1940's Germany.

There are two GIGANTIC differences were have from Nazi Germany:

1) the Fuhrer actually loved the country he reigned, while Obama clearly has a hatred for the United States as it was founded

2) the Fuhrer actually loved his own military, while Obama has turned ours into a joke social experiment

The biggest difference as I can tell from why Nazi Germany was a powerful creative technological force even though they were a center for evil was how they viewed the family. Mao's China and Stalin's USSR depended on famines and non-active genocide as opposed to targeted scientific genocide like the Germans. We are STILL using their innovations to this day, like the ICBM, the stein helm (which our kevlar PASGT system is still based on), the VW bug, the assault rifle concept which now equips almost the entirety of our military, Operation Paperclip, the jet engine, etc etc)
