Dude, I had that Sansui equalizer when I was in Germany. 1990. It kicked ass with my Carver amplifier.

Nice gear. I miss the old "stacked" look!

I do have some vintage components, but am not running them any any setup right now.

However, I'm big into vintage speakers. In my LR, I run four of these in my surround setup

and this as my center channel

In my office, where the vinyl setup is, I run these

Bi-amped with two of these, which aren't vintage, but basically built in that manner:

Yeah, I caught that. I had that exact same Sansui EQ. I also had a Kenwood very similar to it.

Got an MCS 3125, Mitsubishi da-a15dc and preamp and Marantz 2330 in my bedroom system. Marantz Esotec sm-7 in the livingroom. My son has a Marantz 2238b in his bedroom. Gotta love the good old stuff.

In regards to the Jolida gear, with any modern tube gear swap the tubes for NOS USA made tubes. Russian tubes are better than Chinese ones but both are brighter than USA made ones and tend to sound a tad crisp.

noted...thank you for the input. Russian tubes, who wudda thunk it?

i prefer a cleaner defined sound over the warm and fuzzy.

I picked up a sansui 717 about 10 years ago and didn't really expect much out of it when I got it, but, I have to say it was a great amp considering how I abused it….I would take another one for sure!

We will all have to become recap professionals with this old stuff.

Re: vintage stereo...show me your stack
A properly working MCS 3125 should rival high end gear of today, it was tested in Stereo Review or one of the magazines back in the early 80s when it came out. The THD is nothing short of amazing. It sounds it too.

Chinese and Russian tubes tend to sound too crisp. It is not just warm and fuzzy but they don't have a good delivery of the full spectrum. We aren't taking that warm fuzzy 1930s amp here.

I am always looking for upgrades :) the 517 and 717 are where i would like to go with the sansui amps. i have an au-7700 in the closet that needs some work. Don't think i am the guy to do it. My soldering skills leave alot to be desired even after alot of practice. there are some things this joe knows he can't do.

I'm still using the stock tubes, I need to hear some other tubes before I make a decision.

the luxman pre and main was 400 cad to get it back to spec...luckily the tech was a luxman repair tech in germany before coming to canada. which is where that whole system is from(i have converters on the plugs for north american outlets).
the money was secondary...getting those components up and running again was my only thought...wife, food and alimony be damned!

I have a pair of DCM Timeframe TF-250 speakers, I got them from a yardsale for 10$.

They are awesome, best speakers I have listened to.
