I grew up w/ one of those in my parent's system! :)

They ran some Sansui speakers my Dad brought back from Thailand; he still has them. Not sure the model, but they're a lot like these:

getting those components up and running again was my only thought...wife, food and alimony be damned!

This is all a fact! Lots of shit comes and goes over the decades, but love for music and your stereo will always be there until the very end.

Running a Sanyo JCX-2900 in the shop through 4 Pioneer speakers, not sure the model numbers. I need volume in the shop and the 120 watts per channel gets it done. No other components hooked to that one, I stream tunes from the net or plug im an MP3 player while I'm running the CNC mills.

The receiver is a dual mono setup which is basically a seperate amp for each channel. There are a couple of pics and a nice nudie in this thread.

In the house I have a Sanyo 2050 into a set of big old Sansui SP-2000 speakers, Yamaha direct drive turntable with an Ortofon cartridge, Technics M11 MK2 tape deck and an equilizer of which I can't remember the brand.

Man, I haven't had a reel to reel since the late 70's. That is a pretty pioneer though, do you have the tape deck to go along with it? They were awesome to look at, too.

yeah it's a 980….it does fine up to about 10'oclock on the volume then it goes into protect mode/kicks out. I pulled the cover and can see some caps on that board on the left that need attention. I hate to toss it…so a soldering I must go sooner or later. It's set aside until then.

I've got a boatload of tapes, but most were stored in less than optimal conditions, so I need to get to some tape baking.

If that doesn't work, I guess I'll xfer some vinyl to reel.

I sure don't, and I'm unsure if the reel even works, but it's good cosmetically. Ideally, I can replace/retire the TEAC with it. I got it for shipping costs only.

My Dad's been teasing me that he's gonna give me his Tascam 1/2" 8 track master reel. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I'm sure I want it.

Sickness, I has it.

On the 980, the small board on the left you see when looking at the pic, replace the black caps and it likely will work, I had the exact same problem.

I would say you are a purist. i remember jumping from reel to reel in the eighties to HIFI VCR tape. Kicked the krap outta most cassette players.
