I was home schooled in MI but way back then it was basically not legal and my mom just got a good curriculum from a reputable source and took her chances. I have a friend who has always taught her three girls and she follOws all the rules and has no problems. She is very religious so they are part of some Christian homeschool support group. I don't live there now, but I think another poster gave you good advice about going to the national website and following state rules. I think a structured curriculum is great for a new homeschooler. It will also guide you through some required milestones. In NC you have to take EOG tests at certain grades.

You'd probably have to learn to read first. Unless you plan on teaching reading a "wall of text" (also know as a paragraph is garbage). Bwaaahahaha! Good luck!!!

Glad to hear it's easy to homeschool kids. Good thing they are letting us decide public schooling or home schooling for right now before it's illegal.

Michigan has extremely lax homeschooling laws. None really, unless that's changed since I left.

My advice is to relax. It's not difficult at all and can be a lot of fun.

MI public schools are terrible.It's cruel to force a child to face that everyday. Any curriculum you choose will be way better than what he would learn there. Even unschooling is better than a MI state provided education.

One thing I found out right away is I didn't need or use a lot of the material I bought. I went way overboard with it because I was afraid at first.

Just relax and enjoy it.

I pulled my kid out of middle school with no problems.

I didn't know anything about homeschooling. I asked at the school and they told me all I had to do was sign a note, and I pulled my son out of school.
You have to buy books, and if you ever want him to complete school it has to be accredited, otherwise he will have to take GED.

Avoid Michigan Charter Schools at all costs.

They only care about the money - they could not care less about your kid.

Same here. It was easy and my kid got his GED at 16. No problem.
