LOL

Cost of Iraq War (est.): $1.1 trillion
Cost to build Desalination Plant (est.): $1.8 billion
Cost to run Desalination Plant (est.): $50 million per year

And these figures are 7 years old. Probably cheaper now.

Re: The Coming WATER WARS
If you get anything at all out of this, these are the main points.

The Existing Population is currently unsustainable.

There are 2 types of Aquifers...

Fossil Aquifers...charged with fresh water thousands of years ago, and may require thousands of years to refill them.

Rechargeable Aquifers...relying on an adequate amount of annual rain-fall, and snow-pack to recharge them every year.

Bottom Line...These water resources are being pumped out faster than they can refill.

""
Currently, over 7 billion of us are consuming about 50% more resources than Earth is producing – during any given time period. For example, in the past twelve months we have consumed the resources that it took the planet about eighteen months to produce. We are consuming our resource base.

Obviously, this 50% overshoot is not sustainable. Another crucial point to understand is this: the longer we overshoot and consume more resources than the sustainable level, the more the long-term “sustainable level” actually declines!

One illustration of this is what’s actually been happening to fresh water aquifers all around the world. Currently over half of us are in countries where aquifers are being overpumped. As “fossil” aquifers are pumped, that water is not replaced. So when that water is depleted, pumping ends since there is no more water flowing in.

Non-fossil aquifers have a “recharge rate” – the rate at which new, fresh water flows in. As long as water is pumped out at or below the recharge rate, the aquifer will continue to supply the same amount of water year after year after year. However, these rechargeable aquifers are being overpumped.

read an article posted in glp, about two weeks ago (I know that is far beyond the "normal" attention span of modern man) that stated there is more water UNDERground than there is above it ... that hasn't been polluted

THIS IS THE WATER PLANET

if there are wars over water, it will be because man is so selfish ...

is there any where where one can not just punch a hole in the ground and get water (if it is deep enough)

I guess we will just add this to the list of stupid reason to go to war (so the Elite can sell WMDs) along with who is serving the RIGHT god, when we all know there IS ONLY ONE lmao

I dug a well a couple of weeks ago putting a septic tank,

I hit water at 3 feet or under anywhere I dig on my property. I think I will be fine.

All the land around me is being irrigated for growing food mostly rice in the wet season and corn in the dry season. As the population grows, the area is producing less food and more housing and using less water. hmmm. Not every place is like here. but there doesn't seem to be a problem. The rains have started about 3 weeks early this year. so all is well for the time being. thailand is wonderful. We have military control but I have never felt freer in my life. The US is not free. Most people don't realize it because they have live under the repression their whole lives. Freedom, americans don't have a clue. I can actual own land here, and pay no taxes on it. I can build a house without a permit, put in the plumbing and the electrical, no permit. lol. Land of free, america, I don't think so.

Desalination Plants?

Where does the Moran expect to put all the Salt and Minerals, from this extraction process?

Steam Distillation requires lots of energy (heat), which will cause more Global Climate Change, and produces highly concentrated residues that leech into the soil and gound-water.

Reverse Osmosis produces "waste-water" at something like 2 to 1 ratio?

The bad news is that Gods judgement upon mankind is near and two of the plagues, plus social disruptions will severely limit our access to potable water.

Out of ask the negatives, number 3 is the only one I DON'T agree with.

"3. It could exacerbate global warming.
Enormous amounts of energy are needed to force ocean water through tiny membrane filters at a high pressure. Ocean water desalination can be greater than ten times more energy intensive than other supply sources. Ocean desalination proponents, such as private corporations Poseidon Resources and American Water, plan to locate plants alongside existing coastal power plants, thus potentially spurring their emission of global warming pollution. Facilities also have the potential to induce urban sprawl, which could mean increased air pollution from car commuters."

Re: The Coming WATER WARS
By Global Public Square staff

Imagine a large body of water – about the size of the Dead Sea – simply disappearing. It sounds like a science fiction movie. But it’s not. It’s happening in real life – and we've only just found out.

A pioneering study from NASA and the University of California Irvine shows how the Middle East is losing its fresh water reserves. As you can see from the satellite imagery in the video, we’re going from blues and greens, to yellows and reds: that’s 144 cubic kilometers of lost water between 2003 and 2009. What do we mean by “lost water”? Most of it comes from below the Earth’s surface, from water trapped in rocks. In times of drought, we tend to drill for water by constructing wells and pumps. But the Earth has a finite supply. NASA’s scientists say pumping for water is the equivalent of using up your bank savings. And that bank account is dwindling.

This could have serious implications. Conflicts over water are as old as the story of Noah – in 3,000 BC. The Pacific Institute lists 225 such conflicts through history. What’s fascinating is that nearly half of those conflicts took place in the last two decades. Are we going to see a new era of wars fought over water?
