Friedrich Nietzsche if I did not feel so sad as I look at them. Sad because they do not know the truth and I do know it. Oh, how hard it is to be the only one who knows the truth! But they won't understand that. No, they won't understand it." --from The Dream of a Ridiculous Man (1877) |

It's a good idea to remove all personal info from it first though. Read the first link to find out how, the second link takes you to where you can do it. You'll have two weeks to change your mind, if you sign back in before the two weeks are up, it reactivates and cancels the permanent deletion. I remember seeing a post, several times here, on how to permanently delete, as in really delete it and everything from the FB server, your account. I have tried to search for it, but have not had any luck since there are soooooo many post about Facebook and deleting. If someone here was the poster, or knows the information, I would appreciate the re-posting. The recent announcements of the Federal Government getting involved with 'criminal' misinformation postings on social media and such, added to the increasingly NOT private privacy rules and now the Instagram folly, many here at GLP who still have FB would probably like to exit completely. If someone has the information, post it here and maybe we can get a pin for everyone to be able to get the info, or post it on the current FB topic pinned thread I linked here, so everyone can get it. Thanks Go to youtube and do a search on how to permanently delete your Facebook account. It does you the steps to do it |

Thanks You cannot, on your own, permanently delete your FB account. You have to message FB itself and tell them that you wish to do so. When you deactivate FB everything on your timeline is no longer visible to anybody, at all. However, to permanently delete it, you need to go to top right on your own FB page (next to "Home", click "help" on the dropdown menu. Type in "how do I permanently delete Facebook" and it will give you a link at the bottom of the explanation. I grew up with IRC, but when services like Friendster, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc launched and became popular they never appealed to me. Why do you want to put your personal info out there to the public to view? What happened to keeping things online private? What is the point of Facebook? You communicate with your friends and family, right? How is it better than email or phone? I don't even think you can find new friends on Facebook, seems you are locked in to your friends and family, and you allow Facebook to act as the middle man to route your communication. Smart. |

Not everybody puts all their personal info "out there", not everybody wants to find new friends. FB can be a good way to keep in touch with friends and famils, especially if time zones are completely opposite and phonecalls are out of the question. Of course, you do get some idiots posting everything, including their phone numbers, ages and where they go for everybody to see and then they leave their profile open to the public......... A member of my family went travelling for a year very recently, FB was a brilliant way to keep everybody up to date all in one go. Alternatively, and this can be done without going through any other channels, remove everything AC has just said and just "deactivate" and never return. Deactivated accounts are totally invisible and unless the person "reactivates" them, they remain disabled.
