What is the average amount of money you spend on groceries for your family a month (just curious)
I just wanted to get a gauge for how much most people are paying for their groceries.

I have a family of 3 (wife and 4 yr old) and we spend about $300 a month on groceries.

Is that low or high or pretty average?

I am living in MI and am making roughly $75k/year

So lets make it simple

Type the following:

1) State you live in
2) Number of people in your family
3) How much money you spend on groceries
4) How much money you earn (if you wish to disclose)

I've actually thought about asking this myself. I don't know how you're doing it. I think you're super low.

State: Alabama
Family of 4 (2 girls under 5)

We spend about $800/month at the grocery store, if not more.
(But that includes cleaning/paper products/health/beauty, etc)
We try to avoid processed & buy fresh whenever possible/practical. And we eat out a lot.

Income: $95k

I have a family of 6 over here and we go through about $500 to $600 a month on the average.

Then another $80 a month in dog and cat food for the pets.

Re: What is the average amount of money you spend on groceries for your family a month (just curious)
living alone I allow myself to spend fairly freely on food. I could save a lot more but end up spending like $50 per week on just myself. I get a lot of take out food. Chinese in particular. And I don't drink coffee or soda, or include consumables like toilet paper in the equation. If I treat my family to brats or pizza from papa murphy's, that $50 jumps to $75.

No big deal, I have plenty of spare cash, I'm not going to penny pinch on food.

Wow, I think we spend a bazillion or so per month. Really, I don't know. We just go to the store, buy healthy food, use coupons mostly on non food items because we don't eat mainstream junk anymore, and try not to look at the total. NC and income varies but average $80 k

We live in Washington state. Family of 6. I spend about $500 a month on food. We rarely eat out.
Although this week I splurged and we ate out 3 times. We are in the middle of moving, I am so not going to cook too! ;)

I spend whatever I want.

300 a month for 3 people? What do you eat? I think that is low. Are you really thin?

We're doing around $350 for 2 people. We're in Missouri, and make a tiny fraction of what you make.

Re: What is the average amount of money you spend on groceries for your family a month (just curious)
Thanks, this helps. Yeah I was thinking I wasn't budgeting enough.

Somehow we do it though, our daughter only eats organic (down to the snack food and cereal).

we (wife and I) on the other hand don't eat as well as our daughter.

we make about 3 meals from scratch and then eat leftovers.

No High Fructose Corn Syrup, aspartame, pop etc.

Our daughter is SUPER healthy, which is the main thing I focus on.

thanks again for your input, time to put some more money in the grocery budget!

Re: What is the average amount of money you spend on groceries for your family a month (just curious)
Cost of Meats for a whole month:$ 65.00 bought at an extreme discount store where for example, Bacon per pound is $3. Name brand products! The company deals in overstocks.

Average other grocery products bill is $45 per week.
$
I allow the luxury of buying wines, once again, at a discount store in New Jersey. Average Italian White Table wine is $4. A decent French Bordeaux $10. There are more expensive products naturally, but I only buy them if I get a rebate, tax back, etc. Average per month: $44.00

We make our own breads and meal preparation is done in our home with the assistance of excellent gourmet cookbooks. If I need any kitchen devices, products, I go to a Restaurant supply store because they sell things that last.

Best investments: Pizza Oven, Bunn Coffee maker, Restaurant style toaster.

Spend about $1,000/month, two adults, five cats. Make about $85k/year. House and car are paid for, no kids, might as well eat well!

Northern Ca, anywhere between 600-750 per month.
No junk meals , just home cooked stuff.
So I will buy a couple "snack items" for the kids but when its gone, its gone.
Everyone brings a lunch to school or work.
breakfast is a hit and miss depends on if we are running on time.

2 people ; husband and wife.

We shop at good places and buy quality food;

1. gluten free so no white breads, noodles
2. no empty calorie foods like donuts
3. we buy lots of fresh veggies and fruits
4. quality meats ; non of the processed meat garbage with lots of sodium and corn syrup
5. no foods with high fructose corn syrup
6. we drink juices; bottled water ; energy drinks that are natural
NO cheap pop drinks with chemicals, sugar...

So, we spend a lot more than the average person who is buying pop, white bread , mac and cheese, hot dogs ...

We spend about 1000 a month

I just wanted to get a gauge for how much most people are paying for their groceries.

I have a family of 3 (wife and 4 yr old) and we spend about $300 a month on groceries.

Is that low or high or pretty average?

I am living in MI and am making roughly $75k/year

So lets make it simple

Type the following:

1) State you live in
2) Number of people in your family
3) How much money you spend on groceries
4) How much money you earn (if you wish to disclose)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9781861

Data mine much?

1. Georgia (ex-Russia)

2. Twenty-four

3. 150,000 lari

4. 1,600,000 lari

Now. . . f*ck off!

I don't spend money on groceries, because I eat at McDonald's for every meal.

I spend at least $5 on each meal for a total of 3 meals.

That is $15-20 every day.

Now, you do the rest of the math.

I know you didn't ask, but I weigh 450 lbs.

And McD's also will take my EBT card.

I'm voting for Marak O'Romney.

Now, f*ck off!

I was wondering what kind of people are attracted to answering this question. I think it is interesting to read but not feeling the love about answering. On the other hand it may be an honest question. How OP survives on that budget I don't know. It's interesting but is there a hidden agenda? How could it hurt, what do you mean by it being data mining?
