NATO wouldn't intervene to help Turkey if Russia stepped in. After all, any military action by Russia would be in defense of Syria. Iran would also be ready on the border. NATO would seriously not intervene, because at that time there was some serious Western military hardware and tens of thousands of western troops in the Middle East (Iraq No-Fly Zones, Iraq Bombings, etc.). The last thing that Uncle Sam would want is to spark a war in the M.E that would destabilize the entire M.E and probably leave much of the West's forces stranded in the M.E without any means of transportation. So, NATO would agree not to intervene based on Article 5, and Turkey would not go into War alone against 3 several nations.

If the scuds were fired into Turkey, (Particularly Turkish Dams) it would cause a mass flood that would fill and block the supply routes of the Turkish Military stationed on the borders, let alone the possibility that the floods may reach the border and wipe the Turkish forces out. And since the Syrian landscape at the border is either hilly areas or scorching deserts, it wouldn't affect Syria.

Syria is inherently unstable and is overdue for collapse. The Shia/Sunni divide will not spare Syria.

Radical salafists make up a minority of the population, and a majority of the opposition. Their push towards a Saudi puppet state just hit a major wall.

The last few weeks have been devastating for the opposition, some estimates coming out of Damascus and Alleppo is 1500+ rebels killed just last week during their "final assault". This just made the bay of pigs look like a star studded success.

Please, don't take examples from other Arab countries and put it in Syria. Syria is very different, I was surprised so myself when I visited it. The people are friendly, and there is a very little divide between different religious groups. Now, you may believe what you wish, but if you go to Syria (Like many other people have, particularly in this time of crisis) you will see something contrary to what is spoon-fed to us in the MSM.
