Either this 'retaliation' against Turkey is a lie or Assad has lost his mind. He knows enough not to mess with Turkey nor give them an open military excuse to invade Syria.

The Turks have a large, trained, NATO supplied army with plenty of excellent equipment.As if that isn't enough, any attack launched from Syria could trigger a treaty-legal invasion of Syria by NATO.

Years ago, Turkey threatened Assad over PKK terrorists and Assad backed off in fear.

Do you know the real background of the event? The Syrians never backed off! That's the biggest joke I've heard.


When the PKK Leader was in Syria, the Turks sent out a warning and moved in their army. The late President Hafez al Assad received a Russian ambassador. The ambassador asked Assad, "What do you plan on doing?"

Assad replied, "Syria is going to re-enact The Flood in the days of Noah"


What was actually happening, was that the Syrians had all of their scuds aimed for the Turkish dams. The idea propagated by MSM that Syria 'backed off' was just a cover-up.

So they would literally win the war without firing a bullet. They'd drown the entire Turkish Army.

And just for the record, I don't support Assad. I'm only posting the other point of view, something that others here on GLP fail to do.

Thats what is great about GLP, so many opposing and dissimilar , yet many same views, gives an extremely wide coverage that allows for deep and thought provoking analysis, as well as allowing the individual to decide rather than be told what to think, IMO

My personal opinion is the Kurds were sold out by Bush 1, wickedly so, and now that is going to be some major blow-back, if Iran and Iraq are smart they will willing secede some land back(it will save them much grief in the future), it is said that an Egyptian army under Kurdish leadership can defeat the west(cf Salhuadin, also 17th-18th century when Egypt gained control of all lands where their soldiers feet had trod).

Does anyone here at GLP actually understand the alawites? Assad is one and Syria is controlled by them, they believe that by killing a sunni they actually get closer to allah, so i cant imagine what they will do when they infiltrate their opposition and find their families and controllers, and discover they are infidels(actually i suspect they already know that) so really nato and the EU and Turkey have opened a can of whup arse worms that are going to crawl all the way to the stink which apparently starts in the head(for fish, i think its because of the eyes and other soft tissue there, so must apply to other species to some degree, but i digress). This means that actually the alwaites are in the same league as the Russian and Bulgarian mafias, maybe even worse(they kill everyone associated with you, but the alwaites will kill everyone living near you, after they have killed your family, then you, this is quite serious, and its the truth.

Cover. How do you think politics work? There has to be, as in all political agreements, a deal below-the-table. There are many similar cases which are clearly coverups for something bigger that has happened. You really think Syria was going to do nothing after the threats by Turkey? Assad knew how to put his missiles to good use. War isn't about how many soldiers you have anymore. It isn't about military confrontation in an open battlefield.

Of course there are many cover ups in this whole story (especialy after the PKK leader deported) but not at this part.
Btw. the Turkish PM was Bulent Ecevit at that time who was also PM in 1974 and gave the decision for Cyprus operation despite all Nato and Western opposition, so he was not like Erdogan.

Any sources regarding the time taken for the deportation of Ocalan and the military operations by Turkey? I really can't find anything.

Anyways, you should know that Syria did not directly hand him to Turkey. The Syrians forced him to leave the country, after which he went to Russia (Interestingly, Russia did not grant him sanctuary) and numerous other countries as well. He was captured by Turkish Intelligence in an illegal operation under International Laws after he was being transported from the Greek Embassy to the International Airport of Kenya. The Greek Consul that Olacan's life was in danger after the operation.


By the way, Turkey had actually released several diplomatic notes and signed military agreements with Israel, just in case a regional war erupts. This is clear proof of inability of Turkey influence the Syrians into handing over Ocalan. There wasn't a large number of military units on the borders. There was an adequate number of military units, but not as large as some may claim. Turkish Military Command only received the order to develop military operational plans, expecting a worst-case scenario. There weren't enough troops to actually carry out any of those operations. If the Syrians hadn't pointed their Scuds at Turkish Dams, then why do you think they didn't move their military to the common borders with Turkey?

Taking the earliest known date of his first international flight, it would be November 14, 1999. I guess that's about as close as we could possibly guess, to the date of his deportation. It would probably be earlier, because he had to make a stop at a Greek Airport and at Russia before his first official flight to Italy.

I would also like to point out that it was Boris Yeltsin who was the President of Russia at the time of the incident, the very man who ordered the destruction of Chechnya. I wouldn't be surprised if he would have sent a fleet or two to the Naval Bases in Syria and deployed a few Missile Batteries on the Bosphorus.

But by my standards of critical thinking, i can tell you that i am far from being satisfied and i would come up with 10 alternative conspiracies like your post above.
