Why are always Americans complaining about socialism? In every other country has at least 1 socialist party. Social Democracy is not the end of the world, it is a great possibility to distribute the wealth and give proper education to everyone. In the USA you have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for college, in most other countries it is either free or very cheap. In the USA you have no real public health care, you have to pay for everything. I for example pay about 60 dollars a month and get everything medical for free- so why are you thinking socialism will "destroy" America? Are you proud of your desolate public services?

Your right on soooooo many points. However, American Socialism , like all socialist societies, isn't true socialism. For instance, public schools (optional, but education required) and medicaid/medicare. Obama wants a single payer system (government pays it all.. that would be the taxpayer) and is working towards that goal. This would be another socialist program done the American way. Lets not forget mandated Social Security and other mandated schemes that give more than receives.

Oh, and the "health care" being privately owned -- Many of the institutions (nearly all of them) are publicly owned and not private. Some are organizations ran by churches and things like that. I'm not sure if you meant the actual hospitals/health provider system or the insurance system? Either way, we do have government owned and operated hospitals too.

In Obamanations health care bill.. We'll have both public and private health care options.. yeah, like that'll work out.

In our American Socialist society .. we flip the whole thing on its head when it comes to our prison systems. We generally let private corporations who give big bonuses .. err I mean generous donations to our politicians run our prisons for profit. The taxpayer foots the bill though so the businesses cannot fail. Hey, it provides jobs and there is some level of over-site by the greedy rat finks we call our representatives.. generally at the state level.

In our American Socialist society, all are equal as long as they stay in line. That is, make sure corporations get what they want, when they want it. Because most of our corporations are publicly owned and collude with Government .. its really no different than state capitalism...> State capitalism done the American way.

One of the themes that has emerged in Barack Obama's campaign is "what does it take to create productive communities", not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the best instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left. He felt the state government has three constructive roles to play.

The first is "human capital development". By this he meant public education, welfare reform, and a "workforce preparation strategy". Public education requires equality in funding. It's not that money is the only solution to public education's problems but it's a start toward a solution. The current proposals for welfare reform are intended to eliminate welfare but it's also true that the status quo is not tenable. A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. The state government can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs.
