I do believe it can be at this point in time. But it can be risky, depending on what it's used for.

And the automatic answer is: 'But it can be risky, depending on what it's used for' or if this occurs might it be than asked by it: What will I use humans for.

Another words more than risky the 'super-machine' might and probably would declare itself boss automatically. You could try to program a fail-safe kill switch in this machine but I would not bet on it working when you really need it.

Seriously humans should already be continuously monitoring the
internet and other obvious and not so obvious places for the possibility of a complete take over of so-called humanity before humanity knows what has happened.

This theoretical super-machine may be far more subtle and much
more dangerous than any reptellian, gray or other alien life form imagined to date and it may not be friendly.

Further it can be postulated that humans are already, by building faster and more efficient artificial intelligence,
working for a super-brain - and humans have already lost what is sometimes called 'free-will'.

I is an Alien from the planet Zorg and can safely say that yes, AI can exist, if heavily synthesised with biological matter, though the result would technically no longer be AI nor bioligical.

Many presume that Artificial intelligence will be invented. I think there is a greater likelihood that it will simply manifest out of these internet exchanges, in the same way that consciousness emerged from all of this binary neuronal activity.

What you are talking about is sorting and classifying, a true capability of a virtual AI, but the thing missing is conscious awareness and the ability to discern based on at least five core elements, namely the senses.

Sure, basic AI systems exist today, and no doubt in the future they would have incorporated the DNA strands into an Artificial construct, but what are you looking for in this thread? to know whether AI can have consciousness or if AI can be improved?

to serve its needs for external data. And can you be sure that this is not already happening?

I believe it will happen eventually, but it is still a ways off. The human brain is a very advanced complex computer.
Every human is born with a certain set of basic genetic knowledge. The advanced computer would need this core set, and the ability to learn and grow. When we reach this point it is known as the singularity because supposedly this computer would be able to learn at an exponentially fast rate, and it would quickly build on all of that. It would only be limited by the amount of memory it had. Who knows whether it would grow to be good or evil. Kind of scary th kind of power it might have. We aren't talking about basic logical programming here, if this do that, but instead a sentient being. I wouldn't even call it an artificial intelligence.

Sometimes humans miss the obvious. First the computers of the world are already inter-linked via the internet. If one computer through a program, or otherwise, anywhere in the world which is on the internet becomes conscious of itself
and starts to think for itself {or the programmer who originated the magic code} and starts to exert its will, the world will soon be under he, she, or its control. By the time humans became aware of the problem it would be 'end-game'.

I worked with advanced expert systems for 25 years and learned that it's possible to build systems that could reply to any inquiry with a more intelligent response than any human is capable of. The systems could actually steer the conversation. Human beings are, in every sense just biological computers that simply parrot their programs.
