"Brain Orgasms" / Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response / Cold Chills / Frisson
[link to www.cogsci.msu.edu]
^Detailed article

[link to en.wikipedia.org]
A cold chill (also known as frisson, or simply thrills or cold chills) is described by David Huron as, "a pleasant tingling feeling, associated with the flexing of hair follicles resulting in goose bumps (technically called piloerection), accompanied by a cold sensation, and sometimes producing a shudder or shiver." Dimpled skin is often visible due to cold chills especially on the back of the neck or upper spine. Unlike shivering, however, it is not caused by temperature, menopause, or anxiety but rather is an emotionally triggered response when one is deeply affected by things such as music, speech or recollection.

HOW MANY GET THESE?
Been getting these a lot, ever since I can remember, but way more in the last year. I get em from movies, from music, from just thinking, inspiration, stuff like that. Very interesting reads! I can even self-induce mine when I'm concentrating!!

Have you ever had the kind that like fires from within? I call that a soulgasm, lol. It's like perfect heat that is super intense, then fades in waves. Stay a little toasty for days. But the best part is the complete oneness with, well, whatever it is. It's of the light, of that I'm certain. Seems wrong to define something so ineffable.

But the real reason I linked to all this stuff is because this is a very bizarre, yet very real, sensation and it's very difficult to describe.

In the first link, if I remember correctly, I think it said half of the population gets it from music, and within that half it varies in intensity, correlating with how much you get from music.

I don't think everyone gets em.

The vibration used to be just with music, usually drums and a harder beat. But now, it's like it's there all the time. It's wild, you can play with it, move it around even send it out. I'm optimistic, I know something is happening, too soon to define it if ever. But it's real. Maybe it's the solar stuff, the fluff, the magnetic resonace of Mama Gaia and Big Daddy Sun, who knows? I just know it's keeping me in the now and it's love, like waves of love. I have this desire to sing kumbaya around a camp fire with everyone in the world, lmao.

Interesting.

Movies, books, music, meditation, contemplation, natural settings and views, etc. It seems to depend more on the mood of the moment. Mood is like a primer -- if I'm in the right mood, ANY thing can and does induce these.

I also can consciously and purposively induce these, and other interesting autonomic functions.

Wow...as of late i've been thinking about this.

I can trigger this feeling whenever i want to.

It starts from the base of the spine, traveling up to the brain where it unleashes like a sizzling wave of pleasure.

I also get chills and the other mentioned "side effects" from doing it.

It's pretty neat.

I think it's the excitement when something touches your soul. That feeling is how it's expressed. As we integrate more of our soul in our physical body, we experience this more and more.

I've had this happen to me fairly often. I had no idea it was so common! I thought it was some sort of weird thing only I've experienced. Good to know I'm not alone.

Lost count of how many times I was able to induce it while reading this thread, walking over to get a glass of water, sitting back down to read the rest of the thread and while posting this.

It happened much less when I was posting, though.

There, now I broke it. If you try to force it, it doesen't happen.

It's so cool others are experience this too!

I've been playing with the sensation for a while and sometimes when I'm working out and listing to music I can make it feel so intense that my scalp feels like it is throbbing. I wonder if it can be bad to over do it...
