Answers: Why official temperatures are recorded in the shade..."The thermometer reads 80 degrees, and I am comfortable without a hot or gloves because no wind was blowing and the sun was warming me as well as the thermometer. But, even a slight breeze would have chilled me because an official thermometer in the shade at the same time and place would have read in the 20s (above zero Fahrenheit). That would leave continual thaw in the day and freeze at night, regardless of temps. Again, not the case though,.... is it.
