(OP) User ID: 897561 Australia 07/18/2010 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Buoy #52405 west of Guam is in event mode.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1016047[link to www.ndbc.noaa.gov] I have no idea how to read that lol... These buoys measure changes in water heights. They are tsunami buoys. When they go into event mode... it just means that there was an unexpected change in water column height. Sometimes this can happen when it's hit by the seismic wave - it doesn't ALWAYS mean tsunami. Being that it is in the region... I thought I should post it here. |

From EMSC: [link to www.emsc-csem.org] Yea why is that there and not on my little firefox alert! I find that extremely odd...when the quake happened in MD I expected the USGS to update it took them a good while before anything was posted though wasn't much to worry about anyway. |

EQ's under 4.5 aren't listed outside the USA on USGS site. Maybe USGS considered the EQ of 4.8 reported by EMSC to be less than 4.5 - thus not included in their list?? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1016047 United States 07/18/2010 11:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So is that three or four now? Or Two revised? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10401073 total according to EMSC... 2 total according to USGS I'm calling BS on those shady characters at the USGS. They seem to be hiding something. I sometimes think when they downgrade quakes that they are just covering it up and the previous mag is the actual magnitude and the downgrade is just to keep people not worried...I could be paranoid though lol |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1040107no, funnily enough the antipode of these quakes is right on the Mid Atlantic rift, between Senegal and Brazil [link to www.antipodemap.com] |
