I have jury duty tomorrow, and I will be going without complaint or disgruntlement...why?
Because it is a foundational exercise of our freedom, for someone accused of a crime to be judged by a panel of peers in an open court, and not some dark, secret 'starcourt' full of elite or by judges on the take, who have no care for the common man.
Next time you get that notice in the mail, think about the justice you may help serve on someone, instead of whining or thinking of ways to shirk your responsibility.

The Judges instructions DO NOT apply to you, no matter what they claim. Sure if your sequestered you must remain so, you cannot talk about the case outside the jury room. Anything else is just the state trying to exercise power it doesn't really have.
You can not only decide if the defendant is innocent or guilty. You can decide if the law that they allegedly violate is fair. This is called "Juror Nullification", and you will never get on a jury if they know your aware of it.
For instance, if someone had some pot, but you don't think pot should be illegal. You can go ahead and decide that the law is unreasonable and find that person not-guilty.
You never have to explain it either, a juror never has to explain why they vote the way they did. Not even to other jurors.
Anyways, something to think about.
