Flashes in night sky in UK
I live in a rural area of wales in the UK and i have noticed for some months that there are flashes in the cloudless night sky.
There is no light from any source where i live, ie there are no street lights for approx 20 miles so i can see the stars at night very clearly.
I noticed some months ago that there are large flashes of light in the night sky every 8 mins, and i mean evey 8 mins.
I am wondering if anyone anywhere else have seen the same thing, it seems that the entire sky flashes as far as the eye can see in all directions. could it be harp in usa if not what else could it be??????
If you live in a place where there is no light poloution please take the time to look and se what i mean, all it will take is 10 mins of your time to look and come back to this forun and tell what you can see. thank you .

I am in Sheffield and if I look eastwards I notice the sky is a lot brighter shade of orange than I am used to seeing normally.
No flashes though.

How strange. I live in Dudley, just west of Birmingham, and last night my girlfriend (who lives about half a mile away) texted me to say that the sky looked more orange than she had ever seen it. I just brushed it off as streetlamps reflecting on low cloud, but hey; I wonder if its something atmospheric?

We're in Haywards Heath in West Sussex and there were several flashes in the north sky around 5.30pm just as I got out of my car home from work....thought it might be lightning or something

It's how the Black Triangles arrive and depart.

You see what looks like a shooting star and then this Black Triangle comes trundling past.

Re: Flashes in night sky in UK
I was gonna post about this the other day but thought it'd make me sound a bit of a woo

It was about 2am a week ago and I went out for a cigarette in my garden in Essex. I was looking at the orange clouds and suddenly noticed 2 flashes out the corner of my eye - to the west.

I stood there for another 5 minutes to see if it would happen again - then a certain spot in the sky flashed twice. It wasn't a standard flash like lightning or camera flash. Each flash lasted approx 2 seconds and was like a rolling flash - getting brighter. Each flash above the clouds tinted them a shade of green, then a pulse of purple/red at the end of each one that barely lasted half a second.

There was hardly a gap between the two and each set of flashes came from the exact same position in the sky.

Could have been lightning or something else but found it very weird. This didn't seem to light the whole sky up though, just a section about the size of orions belt

Re: Flashes in night sky in UK
Ions in the air. It's a mix of normal thunderstorms mixing with particules in the air, belched up by volcanos. Until normal clouds, these spread the ions around, and with normal electrical storms, can look amazing, if not frightening.
Other things you can notice with these clouds are strange colorings during sunrise and sunset. You may also notice dust coming down with rain (if any) and a strange, almost metalic smell. Although rare, you can also find larger-than-normal explosive lightening. These flashes are massive, and are known to go for miles along the cloudtops before striking the ground with enough force to cause an explosion. This is because of an increase in static discharges collecting together.

I'm sorry if my post isn't well typed, I'm typing quickly and in a low-light room.
