Photocopies of reading material:

"The Flick of Violence", Time Magazine, March 19, 1979. Discusses the movie, "The Warriors" and how it has set off street rumbles.

"Teenage Violence and the Telly", Psychology Today, March 1979. Discusses violence on the television and its potential influence on the youth.

Lecture on "Symbols of Violence". Discusses injustice resulting in group formation and protest movements including spread of propaganda, creation of symbols, tactics and more.

Assignment: Monitor for violence. Denote the number of instances, where it occurred, info about the perpetrator (age, gender, staff/student), describe situation situation, Things listed to watch for: Threats, foul language, violent displays, put downs, signs, graffiti. Write thoughts on your findings.

Essay: Write an essay on the effect of violence on the television.

Protest movement handouts (will transcribe later).

Notes from "An Essay on War" documentary.

Reading material:

"Moral Thinking: Can it be taught?", Howard Muson, Psychology Today, Feb. 1979

"Good Samaritans at Age Two?" Maya Pince, Psychology Today, June 1979. Discusses altruistic behavior and development in young children.

Essay: Can altruism be taught in schools?

Reading material:

"The Origins of Violence" by Richard Restak from "The Brain: The last Frontier", 1979.

Essay on the book, "Cleopatra of Egypt". Estimating the stage of moral development of Cleopatra using Kohlberg's theory of moral development.

Note from me: Unsure if some or any of the above articles or documentary are available online. I think I looked for the documentary a few years ago but was unable to locate it.

Late back in but figured I'd comment. I had material almost exactly like this. In fact, most of what you posted in Feb looks eerily familiar.

My Mother claimed to have some of my work that she said she would send to me, but never did. I was working on material like this in 6-8th grades. Lots and lots of current events type stuff.

You should ask her again. I remember skimming a book by Schlafly that chronicled the hearings of Congress in 1984 that included public hearings around the country. One of the parents in the hearing brought up finding something like the weirdly worded questionnaires that may have been on the subject of sex. I'm guessing there was more like this than even what my sibling kept. Would be interesting to see what your mom has.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57215414

I commented years back in the thread that I had performed a public records request for my records concerning this program and only received back a single piece of paper concerning the overseer of the program and Johns Hopkins University. The "teacher" who presided over the program was apparently not a district employee, and they had no way to contact her nor could I find much about her although I stumbled across some documentation linking her to a school in NYC.

The school district stated that any other documentation was either destroyed or sent to my High School. My High School was torn down a few years back, so I doubt these records still exist or where they would be sent, otherwise.

Unfortunately, I don't have any way to retrieve these documents from my mother at this point.

This thread sent me down the rabbit hole again today so I did some digging... I am almost absolutely sure this is the woman who was the "teacher" in our classes:

[link to obits.syracuse.com (secure)]

I am not absolutely sure of her name, but there is something about her eyes and her middle name that distinctly rings a bell. I remember being allowed to call her by her first name in classes. Sadly, she's passed away so no way to contact her for more info. I do find it interesting that nowhere in her obituary does it mention anything about her years of employment, only what she was doing after she retired.

It doesn't surprise me that we'd be over represented in a place like GLP. Literally we keep doing what we were taught subconsciously, which is to keep asking questions. Makes sense we'd find placed like this.

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
Has anyone done a geographical analysis of this thread? By that, I mean has anyone seen any concentrations of these programs and people involved in them?

I want to go off on a free-association kind of thread for a minute, if you all would allow...

I have been rediscovering the X-Files, through Amazon Prime. I have been going through the first season again, for the first time since it aired. In the episode called "Eve," the opening shot showed (in a matter of seconds) a large oak tree without leaves (like in the autumn or winter) and then panned down to some telephone wires.

I immediately said to myself "that looks like Greenwich," which is where I was born and lived until my late-20s.

There would have been no reason to think that -- oak trees without leaves and telephone wires exist all over the country.

A second later, the typical X-Files type appears on the bottom of the screen as it pans down to a house... "Greenwich, Connecticut."

Now, was this a case of ingrained memory from the time that I first saw this episode? Doubtful. I didn't remember this episode at all.

It seemed more... psychic. I admit that sounds ridiculous, but this thread got me thinking more about things like this that I always dismissed before.

This got me thinking even more -- this particular episode was about a g'ment program experimenting with clones and kids and psychic things, based in Litchfield, CT. Kind of like what we are talking about with the TAG, GATE, MGM, etc. programs (although fictionalized and more like Montauk / Stranger Things).

I started thinking about if anyone has seen any concentrations in this thread -- I would suspect concentrations around Maryland/Virginia/DC. Also, California. And, Greenwich is one of the home-bases of the Bushes and many NYC elite. Which is where I am from, although I am far from elite.

I realize this sounds off the deep end, or paranoid, or whatever. But, I just started wondering if there were "hotspots" to our common experiences and where they might be..

PS: The X-Files franchise has been been known to have released a few truths in the guise of fiction in the past. I'm sure you all know which ones. Also, Sandy Hook is not all that far away, and there are many rumors about the strangeness of that town.

Eastern part of San Diego for me, GATE in the 80's. Long-time thread poster and bumper. I know there's at least a couple more on this thread from the same basic geographic area.

I'm curious to know if anyone else entered the program the same way I did. I was in 2nd grade and way ahead of the class in reading but having a lot of other issues. They made me sit down with a guy, a child psychologist maybe? He wasn't on the normal staff. He had me take an IQ test in the nurse's office and laughed at me when I got really upset about not being able to answer a certain question (I think it was about how metal rusts or something similar). After that I got put into GATE the following school year. Still no clue who the guy was.

Another question; around 5th grade, do any of you remember doing a play with a character in it named "The Great Think-Tank"?

And also, does hat man mean anything to anyone here? The shadow figure with the tall hat? To me, I thought he looked like Abe Lincoln. Only saw him once or twice, outside, walking past the door of the room.

Sort of weird that some of these memories have started coming back lately. Been following this thread for a long time and thought I had remembered everything I could at this point.

strange you found a Syracuse teacher (?) because that is where I went through the brunt of the Gate MGM etc. strangeness, though I have to look at her a few more times, but honestly, I do not remember any faces associated with the time I spent there, which is highly unusual.

Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
well this is a curious thread i've never seen before....

I was in a "gifted" program in MA starting in 1st grade after my teacher originally told my parents she thought I was retarded because i didn't do the work and just stared out the window.

Then they had me tested and it turned out my IQ was really high and I was just bored in school... and from then on I went to special classes a few times a week and got all sorts of other tests all the time... and I got computer classes that nobody else got.

It ended after elementary school ... i don't remember a lot about it.

Welcome! Glad to see we're still picking up more "strays".

Most of us don't remember much of the details. This thread will help with some, but probably won't give you any useful answers. The exact nature of these programs is still unclear even after 12 years of discussing it here.

Speed reading, upside and backwards, scanning for words. I remember learning about Leonardo DaVinci & mirror writing, learning to write upside down and backwards like he did. Also remember knowing tricks like making invisible ink using heat and lemon. Learning various codes & how to code break. Hope this helps ring some bells.

It's like a persistent theme. I don't know what it means to me. Sometimes I think maybe it's some tree of knowledge thing. Other times, Yggdrasil (Odin & wisdom). Anybody else have any similar weird tree..."thing"? lol No other idea as to how to describe it.

California, mid-60s. I was in something called the HAP (Highly Advanced Pupil) Program.

I took a couple special after school and summer classes.

My mother didn't drive, so I suppose I missed some of the offerings because I couldn't get there.

ok serious question here for you guys....did these programs ever involve being taken out of class and having to have a sleep? Reason i ask is because i have a contact who is an ET abductee and was telling me she knew one of the kids who got taken to similar classes. When asked what they did he'd say they mostly just go in there, do similar shit to what you guys are saying and then be prompted to have a nap. Anyways this kid went to sleep one day and then randomly woke up in the back of a car with some military looking guys in the front seat and driving him somewhere. When they noticed this kid was awake they turned around and shoved a needle in his neck, then he fell back to sleep. Had me curious about steiner schools and how their students are apparently prompted to to take naps

Books that were encouraged were: A Wrinkle in Time, The Elephant Man (That was my personal favorite to withhold), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and any of the books from the Choose Your Own Adventure Series.

Do you remember reading any of the books in my quote above?

Yes, also reading books by Lois Duncan.

This thread is really odd.

With that first puzzle of geometric shapes, when I clicked the link and saw the image I remembered doing that test, could smell the wax on floors, feel my school uniform, see the classroom and desk. I had completed that puzzle very quickly and the teacher made me redo while she was watching.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 656642

Lois Duncan, yes - "Stranger With My Face"

And I've always been able to astral project, or at least lucid dream. alter my brain waves, etc...

Speaking of books, there was a set of yellow books with glossy covers, advanced reading at my age, which I think was eight or nine.

They were short stories and always freaked me out because they were strange, disturbing, violent...in particular I remember the one where people were attacked and torn to shreds by lions.

Guys, what you are part of seems to be an offshoot of majestic, as in that shadowy group responsible for investigating ETs. The orange juice thing, the MK ultra shit, astral projection, lucid dreaming; it is all there (you will need to comb through the copious amounts of articles though, i suggest starting from the below link, reading it, then going through each subsequent article link at the bottom of the page):

Is this all a joke? Why are you guys saying all this stuff?
Did you read my case file or something?

What's going on?
The lucid dreaming/ astral projection thing is a big part of this. Most of you wont believe the shit you are part of. It goes very very very deep. For anyone else that has prominent lucid dreaming/ astral projection capabilities I am very much interested in talking to you privately regarding your experiences. Re: Were You Part Of The "Mentally Gifted Minds" Program In California Scools back in the 70's?
I have been rediscovering the X-Files, through Amazon Prime. I have been going through the first season again, for the first time since it aired. In the episode called "Eve," the opening shot showed (in a matter of seconds) a large oak tree without leaves (like in the autumn or winter) and then panned down to some telephone wires.

I immediately said to myself "that looks like Greenwich," which is where I was born and lived until my late-20s.

There would have been no reason to think that -- oak trees without leaves and telephone wires exist all over the country.

Not from the same area. Other coast but random question: Anybody else stuck with a repeating bare branched tree thing? I've drawn (& painted) them over and over again since I was a kid. It's like a persistent theme. I don't know what it means to me. Sometimes I think maybe it's some tree of knowledge thing. Other times, Yggdrasil (Odin & wisdom). Anybody else have any similar weird tree..."thing"? lol No other idea as to how to describe it.

I was taught to draw those as a child and drew them for years. Maybe it is dark winter.

This is a possibility. There's no "smoking gun" that I'm aware of that proves it, but one would be very welcomed in this thread. I'll dig through your link later and check it out.

While I am always curious for more information, I am also hesitant to reach out beyond the borders of this forum. Is there anything you can share with us? Let's discuss it here and then I'll consider whether or not I'll set up a burner email to talk further.
