Redoubt Volcano Elevated to Code Yellow

Mount Redoubt has become active again, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory. At 10 a.m., this morning, scientists at AVO elevated the Aviation Color Code from green to yellow. The volcano alert level was elevated to advisory. The AVO says that, yesterday afternoon, a series of small repetitive earthquakes began occurring in the vicinity of the summit to Redoubt. AVO says that same activity is continuing this morning. AVO says the earthquakes may be a precursor to renewed eruptive activity at the Redoubt Volcano, and increased instability of the lava dome. AVO says it is not known if this recent activity will result in explosive activity or the failure of the lava dome. AVO did say that there is a heightened possibility of volcanic activity that would produce a volcanic ash cloud, avalanches, lahars and flooding down the Drift River.
