(OP) User ID: 837834 United States 12/10/2009 05:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 2 Tim 2:15 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. KJV Now what does this mean? The phrase rightly divide in the Greek NT:3718 orthotomeo (or-thot-om-eh’-o); from a compound of NT:3717 and the base of NT:5114, to make a straight cut, i.e. (figuratively) to dissect (expound) correctly (the divine message): Let us go to 1 Corinthians 1 Cor 7:18 18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. KJV Jews were circumcised and Gentiles were not. This verse 7:18 of Corinthians will be the basis I will use for this message, this is a message that I know I personally have never heard preached. And if some did preach on this, it was only the physical aspect of it. What Paul was saying here is if you are a Jew, be a Jew, if you are a Gentile, be a Gentile. Some translations of the Bible use Jew and Gentile, not circumcised and un-circumcised. Two thousand years ago this was part of your identity. They did not circumcise for health reasons, but Jews were required to do this by the Law of Moses. Trust me folks, a man would not do this without reason and for a grown man it could be deadly. But Paul was talking about the spiritual aspect of this also. So what was Paul talking about here? Let me say this, Paul is referring to two types of Christians, a Jewish believer , and a non-Jewish believer. Paul is drawing a line that they should not cross. We will also prove that there were two apostolic offices which will confirm this. He was saying that a Jew should not become a Gentile, and a Gentile should not become a Jew. Pretty simple right? Well this leads us to some of the biggest problems in the Christian world today. Whether our teachers have realized or not, they have lead many Gentiles to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. They did not rightly divide the Word of Truth. We will show you why. There is a physical aspect to this and of course the spiritual aspect. Paul would establish a church and when he would leave, the Jews of the time would go in and and tell the Gentiles that it was not enough to just to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, that they would also have to become circumcised and keep the Law. Now if you were a Gentile man, this would make you think awfully hard about being or becoming a Christian. Remember Jews were called as G-d’s chosen people, but Gentiles did not understand the beauty in the Law, and Jewish men were circumcised on the 8th day after being born and couldn’t run, but being circumcised at older age, that was a different story. Now Paul was a Jew and worked at keeping the Law, Paul saw the importance not to impose the Law on the Gentiles. This made the Jews mad at Paul and they wanted to kill him. Now there was a big council meeting and Paul was going back to Jerusalem to finally get this mess straightened out. Let us start in Galatians Gal 2:1-3 2:1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain. Note something here: What does Paul say about Titus here? 3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: KJV I’ll bet he wasn’t compelled, let’s move on. The whole 15th chapter of the book of Acts is about what happens at this Council meeting and we will get there. Back to rightly dividing the Word of Truth and why this is so important. First the Law was written for the Jew and never was written for the Gentile. It was more than the Gentile could handle. How many Christians do you think would be here today if Paul had not went and established this? This would have had a great impact on the speed and growth of the Gentile Christian movement and many more problems evolve with imposing the Law on the Gentiles in which we will get to later. Then it says they went on to have quite an argument over this subject. 2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. 3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. 4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. Paul had brought these Gentiles along who must have lightened the atmosphere and declared all that G-d had done in their lives. 5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. 6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. 7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? Now look at what Peter said, don’t put this burden on the Gentiles which even they or their fathers could keep. 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Now how are you saved? BY GRACE., and ONLY GRACE. There are no attachments, let’s read on 12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. 13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: 14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, Below James quotes Amos 9:11 prophecy (has not come to pass yet) 16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. 18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Read what James says here 19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: What did James say here? Don’t trouble the Gentiles with the Law BUT this is what Gentiles were to do………….next verse 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. KJV Definitions by Strongs ¶ Pollution NT:234 alisgema (al-is’-ghem-ah); from alisgeo (to soil); (ceremonially) defilement: ¶ of Idols NT:1497 eidolon (i’-do-lon); from NT:1491; an image (i.e. for worship); by implication, a heathen god, or (plural) the worship of such: KJV-idol. ¶ things strangled NT:4156 pniktos (pnik-tos’); from NT:4155; throttled, i.e. (neuter concretely) an animal choked to death (not bled): KJV-strangled. ¶ Fornacation NT:4202 porneia (por-ni’-ah); from NT:4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry: KJV-fornication. ¶ Blood this is a broad definition NT:129 haima (hah’-ee-mah); of uncertain derivation; blood, literally (of men or animals), figuratively (the juice of grapes) or specially (the atoning blood of Christ); by implication bloodshed, also kindred: KJV-blood. Let me add one more definition here, James said that the Gentiles should ¶ Abstain From this means: NT:567 apechomai (ap-ekh’-om-ahee); middle voice (reflexively) of NT:568; to hold oneself off, i.e. refrain: KJV-abstain. Now why did we bring that out….we will get to that. This is a quite different from what we are taught today. Now hang in there, we have a long way to go. Now let us look at Galatians Let us look at what Paul says here Gal 2:8-9 8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. KJV Paul was the Apostle over the heathens (Gentiles) and Peter was the Apostle over the Circumcised (the Jews)…..By the way, who was Cephas? It was another name for Peter This is tough stuff people, and not easy to divide, hang in there G-d is going to set you free. one more verse on this and we will move on 2 Cor 3:18 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. (OP) User ID: 837834 United States 12/10/2009 06:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Our Identity In Christ This lesson is extended, take your time here. Now without knowing your identity in Christ, how can you love yourself, and more important how can you know how much G-d loves you. 2 Cor 5:17 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. KJV I have question here…does this mean when you get saved, that all your addictions and bad habit’s pass away that instant? Now that would be Ignorance gone to sea and set sail…..If you come to know Jesus, then you sin, then you don’t know Him? Not making sense is it? We will move on…… So how are you a new creature? You are spiritually reborn. Lets go to Colossians. Col 2:10 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: KJV So if I got saved last night, and this morning I still got bad habits, smoking, ect: how can I be complete in Him? We had better get over to John, you see I have seen Christians get beat over the head all their Christian lives from preachers and teachers with no understanding of grace. We have a lot more to base this on. I hope you are starting to see how preaching the law brings death. The change that comes is not of your own accord, it IS BY GRACE. John 7:24 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. KJV Jesus said judge not according to outward appearance. Judge not according to the flesh, back up in Colossians Paul says I am complete, I don’t lack anything. Psychologists have said forever that if you can alter a mans confession, you will alter his behavior. Let us go to Matthew Matt 12:34-36 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. Now read the next verse 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. KJV IF you are going to judge a man, Judge a man by his heart! Prov 6:2 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. KJV Prov 18:21 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. KJV And the way to judge a man by his heart, would be to judge him by what he confesses….and by the fruit he bears. Prov 23:7 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. KJV Now in Romans Rom 10:9-10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. KJV But wait teachers, he still smokes cigarettes, or still drinks, or shoots heroin………..These outward changes don’t occur over night, and some will struggle on and off the rest of their lives with some of these addictions. Does this mean they were not ever saved. Now speaking of myself, I came from a very rough life style, and I can tell you this, when I got saved, I did not get this miraculous delivery that I hear some people talk about. I struggled for years. If you are going to have a church, you have to be ready for people like this, and have some grace for them. Many Pastors today have been saved all their life, and have no understanding or grace for someone who has lived most of their life as a lost addict, you will have to educate yourself in this area, so that you can understand what they are fighting against. Jesus wasn’t in the tomb yet and Peter denied Him three times out of fear. Was that not a sin against G-d? Is one sin greater than another? Is murder a greater sin than a white lie? It is sin people. We will not get it right in this life, we can try, and should try, but with all that Peter had seen, was he then back slidin’? Of course not. If he had died that night, he would have went to heaven. To many people are run out of the body of Christ by this. A church will get them saved and because they don’t change fast enough for a Pastor who has been saved all his life, with no street living experience or no grace in his heart, they will start preaching change or else messages, and steel their hope. You cannot set standards for people that they not ready for. So what happens, THEY QUIT….And we loose them. We have to give G-d time to move in their life. Not our time , but G-d’s time. You see some Pastors, Preachers, Teachers and Evangelist and without conscience, will use the law to control people. Control is power, and part of man’s fallen’ nature is the need for power over people. If there is no law, your free, IF you are free, then nobody can or will control you. Now what you do with that freedom is what is important. Look at what Paul says..This Is Big Rom 7:15-25 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. Right here he teaches ( I ) being spiritual, ( me ) being flesh 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: Paul spirit (his inner man) is in a constant war against the flesh (his mind) 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. KJV Let us continue here Rom 8:1-4 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. freedom of condemnation 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. KJV Now here is a man Paul, who wrote 2/3 of the New Testament and who G-d made an apostle over the Gentiles, who made this confession, he does what he knows he shouldn’t do….But we sometimes as a church expect people to do better than Paul did. Paul is not back slidin’, he is fighting a constant battle with fallen nature. We will elaborate much more on this later, lets go to Galatians Gal 5:17-18 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. We are NOT under the law! 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. KJV We are just getting started…….. How G-d made us: Sanctified by calvary, by grace once and for all…. Heb 10:10 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. KJV Now let me talk to you about loving yourself for a minute. Take this from somebody even long after I got saved, I hated myself for what I did, thought, taught and acted. People you will never perfect you, no matter how hard you try. But Jesus perfected you, and you have to wake up and live with you every day, and one of the two commandments for us Gentiles to live by is to love thy neighbor as thyself. Well the fact is if my neighbors don’t love themselves , how can they love me. Quit judging yourself. And lets go a little further, G-d loved you enough to sacrifice His Son. Did he do this in Vain? You have got to love yourself. Now lets go to Hebrews again. Heb 10:14 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. KJV We are made perfect! We are a New Creature, we are without spot or blemish. Eph 5:25-27 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. KJV You are without spot or blemish, and we will finish this lesson with 2 verses from John, and Jesus said; John 6:63 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. KJV Right here folks John 1:17 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. KJV Now Identity and Freedom go hand in hand, you can’t set captives free and imitate Jesus without knowing first who you are in Christ. What you are worth to Him?
