User ID: 833744 United States 12/08/2009 03:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had to call the sheriff today, because some knotheads were walking around by the creek, up on the fields shooting at things with their .22s...I hear three rounds zing over my property, so I figured I'd better call. Quoting: czygynyWhile it is not unusual to hear people shooting around here, it is not right to have to fear getting hit by a stray round. I've already had a window cracked by a round that must have been shot from quite a distance because I was sitting on the other side of the window and I didn't hear any report of a gun. They then went down to the creek itself, and were shooting what sounded like a .44, something really big, which is fine, because the banks are very steep and deep, and much safer for shooting. The deputy shows up and stops them just as they leave and gives them a talking to...one guy is old enough to know better...but they swore to the deputy all they had were .22s, even popped the trunk lid to show her, and I know they were down there with the hogleg because as soon as the shooting stopped the three of them walked up on the road back to their car. Why would they lie to the deputy about the larger pistols? Anyway, remember, what goes up must come down, and even a .22 slug can travel about a mile. Ah, the joys of living in the country. Did you tell the officer you heard more then one gun- the 22 and the 44? She should have listened to you. also, if she did not find anything, they kept it in the woods and will try to get it later. go find it, keep it for them! hope all is well . . . |

No one shoots right up close to our property, but we are surrounded by open land. If they are not down in the creek, then they are right in line with us. Those rounds that went zinging overhead could have hit the houses up on the ridge. Most shooters are conscientious, unless they've been down having a 12-pack at creekside. I don't know what was wrong with these dingbats, but I think the deputy put the fear in 'em. The year we moved here a girl was shot through the throat when some young buck decided to shoot his hunting rifle into the dark during one of the more riotous parties that used to go on down there. Quoting: Lady Lara Crofthope all is well . . . Yes, she and I had a nice long chat...she is a dog lover and my two rotts were loving on her. She did check their trunk, because they insisted all they had were .22s, but I sat out there and watched and listened until she arrived. Just before they left they were shooting the .44 into the ground just below the road top and were kicking up a lot of dust. Maybe they had it under the seat of the car...she didn't get them out and search, no crime had been really committed at that point. Liars. Maybe the gun is stolen or unregistered. Why do you hate the Second Amendment, ma'am? Quoting: Guns n' God (redux)I have weapons. I have no problem with guns. I have problems with idiots who do not use them safely. Quoting: czygynyI agree 100 % I live by a flood control area that's considered inside city limits. It’s a very large open area about 20 miles or so. Once in a while we get idiot kids out there with 22s trying to shoot squirrels or the turkeys that live back there. Parents are home and see them leave with the guns and don’t stop them. We always end up calling the sheriff out too. I don’t know what’s wrong with some people. There is a bike path that runs right through the field and kids are always in the creek playing. They are so lucky nobody has been really hurt yet. |

Near the outskirts, at the time it was just Desert all the way out, people would Quad and shoot out there. Anyway sitting at home watching TV, PZZ BAM!! right through my wall, went into the fireplace, came out...then buried itself in a piece of furniture. dug the bullet out, looked to be a hunting load, probably .375 or maybe a 30'06. It was pretty close, i heard the ZZZZAP WING BANG as it flew past us on the couch lol. crazy stuff. |

I was headed down there just as she arrived. I would have talked to them, and have confronted idiots doing idiotic things before...but you really don't know how people are going to react. It can be a good way to get killed. Technically a law WAS broken, they were discharging firearms in a dangerous manner, any lower and those slugs could have hit me, or the neighbors on the hill...but in these misdemeanor reports I believe an officer has to witness it to arrest. I believe her attending to the matter will have had more of an impact on their attitude than anything I could have said. Kletos, Eklektos & Pistos |

That's what I always did with drunk hunters. Actually, there are laws against people firing within a certain distance to any residence and it might differ from state to state and county to county so you should by all means find out what your own are. When my mother had some trouble with shooters too close to her house, which is next to the woods, the Sheriff just told her to shoot out the jerks' tires so he could catch them before they got away. A lot of people have animals that could get hurt from irresponsible shooters who should lose their gun rights permanently. |
